Holy Roman Princes would battle for young maiden's affections by angrily slapping their thighs in rhythm. Heres how they did it.
Point 1 is your left thigh, point 2 is your right thigh, point 3 is your left ankle, point 4 is your right ankle.
There are many moves in "Schuhplattler".
A common beginners schuhplattler goes like this
Right hand to point 2, left hand to point 1, right hand to point 3, left hand to point four, right hand to point 3. When you hit your ankles, bring them up to you, do not bend down. Then, bring your right hand behind your back and lift your left leg up slightly behind you and bring it closer to your hand, hit point 3 with your right hand and do the same with point 4 with your left hand. Repeat many many times.
One more thing, between strikes, keep your hand up at 90° angles.
