I have no problems taking out the two closest keeps. It's when I reach the top keep that I get ambushed. My generals are Alexander, Washington, Li Shimin, Saladin, Nobunaga, and Catherine. All of my generals are lvl 4.

For top base i use just Li to take objective, others block Columbo and try send him to west. Then go with all to west save Li to take 2 more towers and city. city is big i need 3-4 turns to destroy and there are enemy general with many unit. After kill 1 unit i find place for Li to shot city with other unit try to get closer to city avoid att general, just unit and i was finish this in last turn.

It took me about 30 tries, but I found this way worked: Take out the enemy archer general to the west, then send a cavalry general to take the barracks in the small island. Send your arty general to take out the northeast fort by sea, while the rest of your army goes to the middle base. Land and take the money building and the barracks. Spawn a single tee up and have it camp on your money princess. Don't focus on the fort itself but on clearing troops. Once you have the two buildings go back to sea and sail over to the northwest base. In the meantime, your cavalry and artillery general should be done with their tasks. As soon as your cavalry general takes the barracks, put down a barracks princess and spam swordsman all around Columbus. Use the artillery general to take out the middle base, while still sailing around the peninsula. Use the cavalry general to clear any enemies away. Your main army should be able to get your infantry on shore to kill Montezuma and hold the beach. Once you have the beach, use archer generals and arty general to attack the northwest fort by sea. Use your cavalry general to protect them from any enemies who attack from the east.

For some reason Columbus keeps on staying in the Northeast no matter how many generals I surround him with. What do I do?

I beat it by keeping my nobunaga by Columbus to protection then I sent Napoleon, washington(at gatling gun) Genghis Khan li shimin and Richard to destroy the other two forts keep something around to deal with infantry, as there is a ton of enemies by the last one.

And i would not recommend a seaborne assault on the last base, as you will be unable to land due to a massive amount of enemies, it's in range of artillery, but they get mowed down quickly

True and to take the whole island took way too much time and general health to do, then Columbus just races to the next base and gets massacred because he goes next to coast and get killed by infantry

For this hard campaign, there's no real reason to defend Columbus with any generals. Capture the island barracks, place your princess there, then spam the cheapest infantry and block both sides of where columbus sits in. There isn't really any threat to him, as the enemy infantry general just sits still, while all the attention will be directed to the barracks you captured. Just keep spamming those infantry. For the objective, use Cleopatra or any artillery general to blast it, while sending your generals to the center and start your slow march towards the west. Keep a strong cavalry general like Attila in the sea and just draw out the enemy spawned, this has the added benefit of drawing the enemy moctezuma towards Attila, giving you a first strike advantage against him(getting atk debuff isn't good). The main problem is in the last city, as your goal is to keep your artillery general healthy, while also keeping your other generals healthy against the enemy spam. Got it a 3 stars at 18 turns, although it was quite safe. It's one of those campaigns that is a marathon rather than a sprint. Nobunaga,Cleopatra and Attila are definitely the MVP here, Nobunaga for hitting hard and having his double debuff, Cleopatra for being a competent free artillery general, and Attila just being a boss(i also have Washington, although he isn't as instrumental, and he can be replaced with someone like Huo or Saladin).

this is easy. My Gens (I do this from memory)
Richard: Gunpowder Age.
Barbarrosa:Gunpowder Age
Attila:Gunpowder Age
Nobunaga:Discovery Age
Catherine:Discovery Age
Alexander:Discovery Age
Send a General of Artillery or Archer to the north city. because Columbus is stupid (in my case I send Catherine)
Send all your generals north of the Archer Barracks. (in a few words where is Moctezuma) in my case I send Attila to the northern city because Moctezuma almost kill him. Then destroy the wall (in my case with Nobunaga, Richard and Barbarossa) and Destroy the city.

Also no artillery generals,interesting.
