So I wanted to do a piece called "road to guderian" For the absolute elite between us.
This would be a guide wherein I use as little tech as possible and go straight for Guderian.
Naturally I had to research if this was remotely possible without farming (too much) medals.
Currently I'm in year 1965 but this includes farming an egypt game overnight for +5 years and a lot of trial and error. I could possibly do it by 1955. Though I'm completely stuck on the last 60 medals which will have to be gained by farming pyramids.
However as I started thinking about it. Could there be any downside to buying Guderian first without the backup of an artilery general?

The only downside of buying Guderian first is that it is long and boring. Everything else is ok. With him you'll be able to get medals for Govorov quite easy.
IMO quite interesting and in fact quite easy way is to use as first gen around 1400 medals worth art EC. You can get him faster than Badoglio and used wisely can be better, and also you won't have to sell him.

Such a guide might help a noob like me, and would be very much appreciated.

Harder is good. It might also give me an idea of how to prioritize which tech upgrades I select and how to minimize false steps, (and wasted medals,) along the way.

Getting guderian is not worthy actually , Getting Govorov is much valuable . I succeed in getting Guderian bare-handed with Manstein friend's guide at Baidu . Getting Guderian still doesn't make you capable of clearing Fall Gelb easily

If I get badogilo for 1st general (which I am saving up for) should I promote him or upgrade him? Because I will sell him soon, so should I just use him to save up for guderian or govorov and not use a single medal on improving him?

If I remember right, the price for upgrading is way too high. You won't make near to any medals on it, so I'd say no. Its not that big a deal and you will make more medals when you sell him. (compared to the percentage you lose on upgrading him)

In fact upgrading academy gens is worth to do only when you have 3 academy gens and 3 ECs and upgrade of academy gen costs cheaper than any upgrade of your ECs. Sure, that's not so straightforward, but no so bad approach too. If you want custom gen, you can invest something around 1400 medals in EC, he'll be weaker than Bado, but you will not have to sell him later and won't lose medals for that and finally he'll be much stronger than academy gens and the best gen against aliens.

Govorov helped me out quite a bit first but if you believe getting Guderian first is worth it then go on. Certain missions are better with Arty and starting stage of campaigns usually require firepower over mobility.

You shouldn't upgrade Badagolio's rank because he start's at a generally high rank and you will sell him soon.
