Group everyone to the north. Kill as little as possible while positioning Li Shimin in 3-hex range from target tower, destroy it asap. Once you destroy it Japan will switch to your side, then proceed to the other targets. On

I did it both ways. Maybe you should get better items for your gens? btw Artillery units can attack north castle from the water, take caution though as enemies will focus that unit.

True, I used Li-Shimin (level 4) sent him up the eastern water, then targeted the castle. I kept my other units in the south-east to avoid killing the Japanese.
After destroying the castle and allying the Japanese, Li Shimin had lost much of his health. Not sure how much remained, maybe 30%+.
Then I sent all of my units to attack the Chinese, partly ignoring my allies. I destroyed the southern castle, and then the northern one. Pretty sure you have to kill Li Hongzhang.

I used an odd lineup for this one: Caesar, Nobunaga and Saladin (all 4 star) deployed in the southwest, and Bismarck (5 star), Alexander and Cleopatra (both 4 stars) in the southeast. I used Alexander to draw fire from the Ashigaru as Cleopatra snuck around and blew up the Japanese castle, losing most of her hp. Meanwhile my other 4 generals took out the Chinese (not Japanese) enemies to the west. I sailed northwest with my 5 generals, leaving Cleopatra to suicide into the southwest base, getting a single hit off on it. I sent Alexander directly at the objective general to reduce his defense then used Nobunaga and Bismarck to finish him off. Caesar and Saladin I just used to clear the way. Once that was done I focused on keeping Bismarck alive while he blew up the castle. Everyone died except for Caesar (used as a distraction later so Bismarck could get an extra hit) and Bismarck, who then went to the southwest base and blew it up from sea.

I beat this one with gunpowder generals but what I did was make japan a ally by destroying the castle and then sending artillery north to fight china. I also tried not to kill many Japanese troops as they will become your allies, so I didn't touch many ashigaru because they did provide escort for me.

I beat it with discovery generals, also used Bismarck (gunpowder) and maybe Lincoln. Did almost the same thing. Sent Li up the north-east to destroy castle, other troops waited, not killing any Japanese (I think) then I attacked.

Nice, I didn't do it in discovery because I was stuck on great patriot 3, but I am sure I could have won with discovery age generals.

Even after restarting and having lvl 4 Napoleon, ghengas, Attila, Washington, nobuganda, and Richard, this mission seems impossible. I may have to wait and upgrade to gunpowder, only 5 1/2 lols to go.
