Its a hugh book and a busy life Oh yes, I know. I'm not saying that it's a bad thing. It's an achievement.

Best thing is how it 's responsible for a lot of stereotypes about Russia: 1. Stronk peasants swarming French elite troops (Actually Miloradovitch delivering outstanding delaying tactics with the rearguard of the Russian forces) 2. "General Winter" defeating Napoleon/"it's the fault of the weather" (Then don't bring 600.000 troops with you if you need so much food!) 3. Retreat, defeat, vodka, repeat: Retreating was VERY unpopular in the Russian army and Bagration constantly criticized Barclay de Tolly for cowardly retreating (and being German). They commanded 2 seperate armies in the beginning: Barclay in the north, in favour of retreating; Bagration in the South in favour of attacking. At one point, Davout manoeuvered himself between the armies to prevent them joining. However, if Bagration's army had joined Barclay's, it would have been impossible to resist the furious and wildly popular Bagration from attacking Napoleon, outnumbered roughly 1:2.5 or 1:3

I know this was from a couple months ago, but I had to comment because War and Peace is such a fantastic story, definitely one of my favorite. I read it this January, and everyone at my school thought I was crazy for reading such a big book, but it was worth it. It is a tremendous story, and if you enjoy philosophical discourse, and ruminations of history, than there is also a lot of that as well. I would recommend it to any avid reader!
And congrats on finishing it!

So many versions of 《War & Peace》 exist, but are they the exact same in content? I'm most likely gonna go for the free copy but what difference are there in each copy?

The differences are in the translation. I bought the Pevear/Volohonsky translation (the Blue cover), and I thought it was excellent. That being said, I read a lot of differing opinions about translations, so it really depends. For instance, the one I had left the original French in the text, and then had the translations in a footnote, which I liked, but it might be irritating for some people.

It's a masterpiece in a way and it shows a lot what Russians did to win Napoleon, because they had np chance in actual direct military conflict, they had lost even before the winter had came any near, hell they even burned down Moscow lol
