Today, April 6th, 2017; marks the 100 year anniversary of United States Entry into World War 1. Although joining the war effort late in terms of deploying troops overseas, the United States played a critical role in terms of lending supplies to foreign allies, specifically Great Britain. Instead of one sole factor for an entry into the war (like Pearl Harbor in 1941), many events accumulated until the U.S took action. These events include, but are not limited to; the sinking of the Lusitania, Zimmerman Telegram, and probably the most important-the sinking of 7 unarmed merchant ships and the resumption of unrestricted Submarine warfare by the German army. Public opinion was skeptical, unlike World War 2, many Americans wanted to remain neutral and avoid European conflicts at all cost, but the majority of the public ended up swaying towards war in the end (due to reasons mentioned above). A 2,000,000 man Army led by General Pershing arrived in Europe, and American soldiers appeared in famous battles such as the Meuse-Argonne offensive (bloodiest offensive in U.S history), and the battle of Belleau wood, not to mention numerous others. American soldiers brought much needed morale to French and British soldiers, who were repulsing constant attacks from the German Army. America was only officially in the war for one year and seven months, but paid a significant contribution not only during their entry in the war, but before it also. After the war President Woodrow Wilson made the world changing Fourteen Points and the League of Nations, which would change the course of history forever.
Total American casualties: 320,518 men, which include 116,516 dead.
This thread was not made for information purposes, but to honor the men who fought valiantly for the United States in the first World War and to respect the sacrifices they made.

I feel the world war had the Usa for different reasons. The zimmermann telegraph was a ploy by the UK to bring USA into the war and the Lusitania was smuggling food to the allies.
