For the ones that can afford the best:
For artillery i suggest Napoleon trust me after all i have Napoleon he is the best at artillery none of the generals can beat him easily he is very good at destroying other generals, troops and others.
For Forts if your are a defense kind of guy i would pick Alexander the Russian emperor after all thats all he is good at.
For Calvary i would pick Murat or Lasalle or Blucher after all these three are unbeatable in calvary.
For infantry i would pick Archduke C or Lannes.
For the navy i would pick Nelson and Jervis.
For the ones who can only afford the mid generals the ones in between the best and not so pro:
For artillery i suggest Louis Bonaparte.
For Forts if your are a defense kind of guy i would pick Bulow.
For Calvary i would pick sulkowaski and Nansouty.
For infantry i would pick Dobeln and Picton.
For the navy i would pick Duckworth and Sidney.
For the ones who can only afford the weak generals:
For artillery i suggest Graham.
For Forts if your are a defense kind of guy i would pick Ferdinando I.
For Calvary i would pick Dumouriez.
For infantry i would pick Arnold.
For the navy i would pick Brueys.
For the ones who want help in picking princesses:
Victoria
Isabela

Honestly not all of those you've quoted are that good. Here's a better list (no offence intended ,just information) TIER 3 / PRINCESSES* (regrouping needed)
Infantry -VICTORIA* (stunning) -SUVUROV (debatably the best) -LANNES (mass fire and assault art are lit)
Cavalry -Probably a tie between MURAT and LASALLE .Lasalle has better movement and does more damages against humans ,Murat can be a little worse than that ,but he is probably the best fort smasher in the game. -LAN* (incredible)
Artillery -MOREAU (everything you need in an artillery general) -ISABELA*(maybe better than Moreau thanks to geography) -SOPHIA* (fort destroyer probably just as powerful as Murat)
Fort (really?!) -KUTUZOV (defens art ,fireproof ,siege master)
Navy You shouldn't really spend money in trash. Just get Kate if you have enough slots
JOLLY JOLLY JOLLY JOLLY -Obviously DAVOUT (either artillery or cavalry with some regrouping) -Poniatowski (not that bad .Assault art ,Geography and Leadership can come in use)
TIER 2
Infantry Either DOBELN or OUDINOT. They do not cost that much ,get them and leave the rest.
Cavalry -GOLITSYN (classic and reliable choice) -NEY (very good but not that special) -SULKOWSKI (another good general ,ready to be regrouped to free a slot) -BERTHIER (he misteriously has 4 star in artillery ,but he's clearly a cavalry general ,some regrouping needed, too expensive ,but maybe the best after TIER 3)
Artillery -SCHARNHORST (he's ready to be regrouped after a while if you want to save a slot) -GROUCHY (meh) -DRUMMOND (pretty good against forts) -JOURDAN (good attack thanks to explosive+ballistics, poor movement)
Forts Hahahahah
Navy -SIDNEY (with some regrouping could be the best ,matched by only a full regrouped Kate)
TIER 1
Infantry -HULL(nice focused skills) -ZAKREVSKY (useful for mass fire and for being a trainer) -LUSIGNAN (mass fire)
Cavalry Honestly just DOMOURIEZ is worth the price ,and behind him maybe JUNOT or CHARLES
ARTILLERY -MARMONT (explosive+engineering) -KUTAISOV (trainer+explosive+siege master)
Forts / Navy HAHAHAHAHAHAH

I think I would have to disagree with both of you here, respectfully of course. Napoleon is too diversified, and Moreau is practically Isabella. If you want a real artillery, I suggest Davout.
Infantry is not really needed, and Suvorov is not that great. Just get Victoria or Pontiatowski.
Lasalle isn't as great as he seems, and Blucher is a joke.
These are the best gens in my opinon 1. Davout (for artillery/cav) 2. Pontiatowski (very diversified, good on anything practically) 3. Radetsky/Dombrowski (best for cav. Both are similar) And that's really it. I wouldn't personally put emblems into anyone else, maybe Murat (good fort cracker, but you already have sophia) Or you could get Nelson (Great Navy, has potential on artillery)
my .02 cents.

AdmiralDark, you're kidding. Most of the generals you list are absolutely pathetic. Note that you need one cheap guy at most, in the beginning. I think Stonewall Jackson got it mostly covered.

I expected this response when I saw how flawed his list was. Alas, I was far too late to break the news more gently. The important thing to note, of course, is that many of these generals lack skills that are for their unit, and other such generalized problems. (they fail even at being generalized. Skills, not Stars!) At least he tried/shared? ehh... Edit: and its obvious to the regulars I assume but Forts are almost, probably always better used as another type for the slot. As somebody here points out more classily, we are fighting an offensive war. I suppose if there was a large amount of slots available for in-battle use, a Fort general would be fine. In every other circumstance nope.

In every other circumstance nope. He made a section titled "For the hackers, cheaters, and honest ones", as though most are Hackers. That raises the usual hacker suspicion, but let's not jump to conclusions. First off, from reading the first sentence of section I, you see AdmiralDark needs to make big improvements. Napoleon is crap, and will never be useful in Vanilla. He recommends a grand total of 11 crappy generals, and 6 second-rate ones, leaving only 5 legit good ones (Murat, Nelson, Dumo, Sulkowski, Dobeln)

Dudes not everybody has princess plus these are my opinions of who is the best, though i respect your opinions as they are very good. I understand, two points I'd like to raise though: 1) Even if princesses were excluded, there are some generals that would be objectively better than your recommendations. Scarnhorst, for example. Golitsyn, Kutaisov, Marmont, Berthier, and Suvorov come to mind. 2) On objective comparison of generals, comparing generals based on mainly skills (and of course stars) is a proven technique. Sure, your experience might differ and an incredibly skilled player might* finish EW4 with no generals, but not all players are in that skill bracket. We try to compare generals objectively that way. Another method of comparison is efficiency, that is the quickest path to victory.

I think it comes down to this. If you have a four-slot line up, then either Golitysn or Sulkowski are the only generals that are worth it in my opinion, considering every other general you should get is a princess (sophia, Isabella, Lan, Victoria).
If you are willing to spend money on the game, the only investment should be in either more slots, or getting ONE general. I firmly believe that Davout is that one general (or Poniatowski), and that's all you really need. Anything more than that is just a waste of money, but then again, this is just my opinion.
So with a four-slot no IAP line up, it would look something like Kate-Sulkowski (or golitsyn)-Sophia-Isabella-regroup Kate-Lan-Regroup the cav gen you bought-Victoria.
four or more, Davout (or Poniatowski)-Kate-Sulkowski-Sophia-Isabella-regroup Kate-Lan-regroup Cav gen-Victoria. If you have more than five, than either keep the Cav or keep Kate.
These two line ups are just how I would personally go about it. Dumouriez could possibly be a good cav gen in replace of Sulkowski or Golitsyn. Dobeln is good, but Cav is better than Infantry. No artillery since you have Isabella and Davout (for those who paid), or Sophia (for those who didn't).

Dudes not everybody has princess plus these are my opinions of who is the best, though i respect your opinions as they are very good. Your opinion, however, is not as valid as the objective fact that Golitysn has the exact same capability as Lasalle, and that Marmont has far more capabilty than Graham

I know too that infantry is not that great ,but I wanted to point out the best generals for each army corp ,otherwise I'd talked just about cavalry and artillery ,since they are the heart of my line-up. Moreau and Isabela are almost the same ,but ,again ,you cannot forget about them in making such a post. They are both the best basically. Murat ,trust me ,is incredible. When fully regouped in mobility ,and top rank and nobility, he's able to crack a top tier country in conquest without effort. Honestly I consider Lasalle better than both Radetzky and Dombrowski ,even if they're beasts ,but that's an opinion. Since they're great in almost everything ,it would be reductive to put Davout and Poniatiowski in just one category ,and so they're "Jollies"

*snickers*Napoleon is not the best artillery general. It's definitely Moreau, since he has 4* arty and 4 arty abilities. In fact, I'll make a list about this. Best GeneralsInfantry: Dobeln OR Picton OR Victoria OR Suvorov if you have the cash. Dobeln is the poor man's general. Although he's more expensive than Picton, he's a cheaper investment, since you're gonna want to train Picton to 5* in infantry, so he's overall more expensive. However, Picton has 3* movement, so he is arguably more worth it than Dobeln. Victoria is the hardest princess to get, so you might wanna spend a few bucks on getting her. Now, Suvorov is for the rich, with his 4 infantry abilities and 5* infantry. What's more, he's unbeatable with two Ferguson rifles. However, there is the matter of movement. If you really wanna, give him two extra stars in movement so he can move an extra tile w/ most infantry units. Artillery: Moreau (for reasons above). Or if you don't want to spend money, then try Isabela, the French princess. Train her up to 4* arty and she's a beast. Cavalry: Dombrowski, Murat, Lasalle, Golitsyn, Lan. Murat is great at fort-cracking, so if you're into that, then the Dandy King is your man. Lasalle is great at defeating ground units, and Dombrowski is a freakin' beast. Now, the peasant's cavalry hero is Golitsyn. He's only Tier 2, and has Strike and Surprise. Also Fence Meanwhile, the Qing princess, Lan, has Leadership and Assault Art, as well as 3* cavalry. Train her up, and she'll be unstoppable. Fort: DON'T, but if you insist...don't. Business: DON'T, but if you insist, Arnold. He's got 5* business and he's in Tier 3, so he's pretty cheap. Navy: Ushakov, Kate, Nelson if you insist. Ushakov is 5* navy with good naval abilities. He's cheap too. Kate is an arty/navy combo, and she's free. Nelson is for the badass. RecommendationsGet as much experience with the generals that fit your play style, whether through campaigns or conquests. Then crunch some numbers. Consider your budget for the game (are you gonna spend actual money, and if so, on royal emblems, medals, or slots), etc. Then, if you're a free-to-play (like me), consider: - Picton/Dobeln
- Sophia/Isabela (or both)
- Golitsyn/Dumouriez (the latter if you're a peasant)
Lan is if you can get her. Replace Golitsyn/Dumo with her.
This is my actual lineup ;(
Now, if you wanna spend your money or spend lots of time...
- Suvorov
- Moreau
- Dombrowski
- Lan
- Isabela
- Victoria
Suvorov and Victoria are for infantry. Moreau and Isabela are great artillery gens (and they both have engineering), Dombrowski and Lan are a cavalry powerhouse.
