The the hell do gold stars do?? 1) They unlock/upgrade certain troop types for A campaign mission. Meaning that if you unlock RA for campaign mission A, you can spawn RA in that mission only. However, troops available and troop lvl also depends on the devs' default settings for each mission. 2) You can sell those stars away in shops found in campaign missions for medals. A gen with 5-stars in Trade is recommended to be in city with the shop to maximise your trades. |

You really don't need to use them until further on in the game.
