Greetings fellow EFC'ers!
(The TLDR section at the bottom )
As you know our forum mainly revolves around gaming and we have players from all around the world (take a look at the flag section at the bottom of the main page) but we also have a very lively general talk section as well as other areas of interest.
Now when it comes to politics there is a clause in the forum guidelines that specify that we should be avoiding "heavy politics" this simply means the focus should not be there ie: we are not creating a board for it, or making threads with the goal of debating politics. It does not mean members should never speak about a political figure or system if an existing conversation warrant it.
This clause was introduced in the forum when it became clear that a couple of old members had a political agenda (that's all they ever talked about) and were simply using our community as a vehicle for propaganda. The no [Heavy politics] system was meant to stop these extreme members it was not meant to muzzle the free natural expression of the normal membership.
If we were to strictly enforce a no politics system then we could not have a [historical presentations] board and we most likely couldnt have an [officer's lounge] or even a [Game modifications] section either since directly or indirectly so many of the discussions could be construed as having elements of politics.
Understand this is not a change in EFC policy this is simply a clarification of the original goals of that policy.
The TLDR section:
I do not want to see members clubbing and hammering other members just because they mentioned a political topic or personality most specially not if it made sense for them to mention it or if it was in context or if it had historical relation to the topic at hand and similar reasons.
I understand this might be a bit ambiguous and clearly not an exact science, this is why if in doubt contact a moderator or myself if there is an issue or a problem. Do not moderate other members unless you are yourself a moderator, if an issue happens in the [Officers lounge] then Mountbatten would be glad to assist you.
