First of all, I love the title, comes from Dire Strait's Money for Nothing. For early game, I would suggest List for tank, Badoglio or govorov for artillery and Ozawa for naval/air. For midgame, I'd suggest saving up for end tier generals, like Patton, Guderian, Konev and Yamamoto. List has low levels on his good skills, which basically makes him equivalent to buying an slightly less overpriced French general. Get Vatutin, Crerar if you know how to use plains, or Panzermeyer if you're that desperate because losing 20-something percent off 300 medals doesn't hurt as much as losing the same percentage off ~1000 medals.

Crerar, that's the general I was forgetting! I had a pretty positive experience using him as my very first general. I would still recommend Badoglio as first gen, of course, but it might be good to aim for Crerar right after that

Good Tank Slot Generals: 1. Guderian 2. Patton/Manstein 3. Rommel/Vatutin Good Artillery Slot Generals: 1. Badoglio - Until you can get Konev/Bai C.X. 2. Govorov 3. Bai C.X/Konev Infantry: Vasilevsky or Mannerheim I also found Yamashita is a great infantry general too, especially the five star march ability.

He's good and fast, but dies quickly unlike Mannerheim. And Vasilevsky beats him in Aliens, and you only need 1 pure inf, max, so... that's why he's less used. The others die even more quickly.

That makes 0 difference for infantry. Infantry generals move 1 hex further if thet have 3 stars or more, there is no difference between 3 stars or 5 stars. His output is 31,1, below the likes of valivesky (43,7) , rundstedt (33,7) and even manstein (32,5) on infantry. His survivability skills aren't there except a 6% land damage reduction. May i note you that mannerheim has 17% for instance, he also doesn'thave any supply skill. However he costs the jackpot, 3240 medals. You pay that insane price for someone that doesn't deal any damage and doesn't survive, i wouldn't call that a wise investment to be honest.

He's great against humans, it's just that when you finally get around to an inf gen you won't be fighting much humans anymore, and he just turns into a fast runner inf gen with low output that dies at the first shot of an alien laser. Another one of those 'decent' gens that no one buys because there's better gens then them, like most of the German and Soviet academies XD

For the price of Yamashita just save some more and buy Guderian, or Mannerheim and Badoglio.

some say meyer is bad, y? i use him and win Well, Panzermeyer is decent, but not the greatest. As medals are limited and basically finite, it is common wisdom to save up for Guderian, a German tank general who basically breaks the game due to his OP skills and stats, as you can beat most of the early levels in campaign without OP generals, but things take a sharp increase in difficulty thereafter and need generals around that time. However, as Guderian costs ~3000 medals, it is more common for new players to go for a cheaper general before him, usually the artillery general Badoglio.

A 'medal-worth general' would be Ozawa (4 navy, 3 air), Crerar (lv 4 plain fighting), and Vatutin (poor man's guderian)
