I got this game about a week ago. So far I'm loving it. Anybody who likes the classic 4 party RPG will want this game.
Story: The dragon age games have tons of lore, but the main thing that you need to know is the Mage vs. Templar conflict in every game. The plot usually is influenced by whose side you take. The main missions involve closing breaches around the world that demons are filtering through.
Party: There are multiple companions as well as a variety of options for your character. These companions control themselves, but you can switch to any of them whenever you want.
Combat: There is a skill wheel at the bottom right that has different skills that you can use. Every class has 4 base skill trees, plus I think you get more later. So there is quite a few skills. Your companions fight and use abilities by themselves.
Character creation: Multiple options for faces and makeup and all the works. The real fun stuff is the classes. There are 3 base classes, warrior, mage, and rogue. The warriors can either be sword and shield tanks, or two handed weapon powerhouses. Mages have a variety of spells including storm spells, fire spells, ice spells, and barrier/support spells. Rogues can either be dual wield dagger rogues, or archery. Rogues are the funnest for a first playthrough imo. Your companions vary in these classes.
Outside of combat: This is the first Dragon Age game to implement full free roam elements. You can spend hours in the starting area and still not be done with all the quests in there, or you can leave as soon as you want and tackle harder areas.
Ultimate goals: High Dragons. These are fearsome creatures that can 2-shot even the most powerful warrior. Preparation is required to face these guys. There are 10 in all scattered around the world.
The other games are really fun too and I reccommend them. All three of them ( Dragon Age: Origins, Dragon Age 2, and this one ) can be played on 360 and ps3. Inquisition can be played on next Gen consoles as well. Not sure about PC.
