Yet another example of teachers not doing their job properly. We were talking about the cold war today and my literature teacher said that the Korean War started in 1958! I told him that it actually started in 1950(yes, Leonid Govorov it's you and your question in the history game) but he didn't believe me. And he is supposed to have studied this at University...

Damn! That's offending the Koreans. They declared a ceasefire on 1953! Damn.

4 days later is the 99th anniversary of WW1 ending. Sadly people here celebrate "Pepero day" instead(pepero is a type of korean snack btw). Such a shame that people think Company's sales skill>End of one of the worst war in history.

In America: We do celebrate Armistice Day as one of the major Federal holidays where schhols, banks, universities, agencies close down. Some of the other holidays yiu would think that we would close down but we don't, and yet for this one, we do. It's quite important for more than just WW1, we also celebrate the concept of ending wars in general on that day in honor of such events. In contrast, we don't even have an official holiday for WW2's ending, and it has 3 different possible dates we could celebrate but we don't celebrate those days at all.

Desophaeus, intresting. We were colonies of Japan during WW1, so maybe that's the reason.

Schools aren't closed on Armistice day, at least here in Michigan. We get election day off, but not Armistice day. I also think the common name for Armistice day is Veteran's Day, at least in the U.S.

Arya Stark, Desophaeus, let's see if I got this right. Armistice day is in 11.11, when WW1 ended. However, you don't celebrate WW2 ending. And armitice day you get school off on some states, while you don't in others. It is also called Veteran's day. Intresting, because we don't celebrate Korean war armistice being signed.

That pretty much sums it up. Its election day that most students get off (First tuesday after November 1)
