I use the diplomacy features to keep certain allies relevant in the game. If I help them capture cities and funnel extra resources to them they produce stronger units and that helps take some of the heat of me.  If I take all the cities myself then I wind up fighting on 8 fronts. Not fun. Plus: letting allies wear down he enemy or draw off their units helps me concentrate on the more strategic cities. Plus funding the right country goes a long way. For example, sending 9999 money to Australia a couple times in ten turns and they'll spam the hell out of Japan. By comparison, ROC won't be as aggressive. |

I had gotten so involved in locking up Europe that I forgot to keep tabs on my ally Japan and they'd all but been overwhelmed, so I started funneling all my spare cash to them. Bulk donations of resources brought them back around in about ten rounds. Thanks to you, gracias!! |

Are you able to play as switzerland? 2. Are you able to declarw war on other countries? Could you guys please explain me how the diplomacy works? |

I hope you'll find this place useful in your playthrough as you travel through the world and destroy your enemies :) There's two aspects for diplomacy. One is to donate money/industry/tech to your allies. This one is quite useful, especially when playing as the Axis in 1939, to keep your allies alive or potentially reduce your playtime to achieve a better score. There are countries (in general, not just for 1939) that do better with resources (ex. Japan, US, Spain) and countries that do much worse (ex. ROC, Australia) with them. The other aspect is to declare war on a neutral country (the ones that are greyed out). Once you declare war, you can attack their cities and troops and steal their resources (although their troops will remain stationary and not actively attack you unless you're right next to them). This is usually not recommended unless you have extra troops to spare or you're trying to beat a max cities record. |

As a side note, the neutral country ai will use air strikes against you, but that’s the only way they will actively attack you.

Yeah, I did an Egypt 43 conquest and declared war on Saudi Arabia, and my units were taking damage outa nowhere, so I didn’t skip the turns and saw Saudi launch a few airstikes at my troops. I thought it was pretty cool

You can do two things: declare war on neutral countries and donate to allies. |

I like to set a few howitzers/rocket near the neutrals BEFORE declaring war and then pummeling them into submission rapidly - try to be ready to para into the city right on the last blow or else you might have to keep a siege going... It's a fair way to level up the guns too, BTW.
Declaring war is most useful to close down chokepoints: in Turkey, to shut out navy coming out of the Black Sea with those artillery I sent and w/ some built coastal artillery.
