Hi. I'm little new here. I have a little more than 800 stars and I'm thinking of getting some generals. Nothing too costly, just some generals to float the ship till I get some princesses. I prefer cavalry or artillery, but infantry will also work. Any that can do two of those well is excellent. No navy though. I prefer land to the sea. Suggestions? (I am on Egyptian Expedition in Imperial Eagle and Battle of Austerlitz in Coalition. I have 44 campaign stars.)

Approx. 800 medals, not stars.

You may refer to: european-war-4.boards.net/thread/4047/general-analysis for more info on gens. A good business gen that is okay in inf is Arnold. He has 5-stars in Trade, 3-stars in inf (if I recall correctly) and he is a Business Trainer, meaning he can increase Trade stars by 1 when regrouped into another gen. A good cav gen I heard from other players is Golitsyn. Savary is said to be a good Cav/Navy gen. Dumouriez is good for his cav stars, his cheap price and trainer skill.

Golitsyn costs 955 medals, but he's the best cavalry general in tier 2 without regrouping. Savary is a cav/nav general and navy is useless at the beginning. Sulkowski is stronger than Savary on cavalry and they've the same price

I am not a pro but I'd share my experience anyway. My first generals were Kutaisov and Quosdanovih, also trainers for arty and cav respectively. They performed really well until the time I got Sophia and Isabella. I regrouped Kutaisov to Isabella. My new trio then went far enough to get me Sakurako, which I then used to get Lan and Victoria. If you choose to buy cheap, you may begin with those two cheap but effective trainer generals. You can then use those cheap gens to start your own medal, rank, and nobility farming. Since they can be regrouped for training their successors, most of their collected rank and nobility experience will be carried over to the general they are being regrouped into. You may even use those two starter generals to grind refresh chances and medals and get yourself a Golitsyn if you farm hard enough. For grinding refresh, medals, and rank you may refer to this link: european-war-4.boards.net/thread/5/grinding-medals-rank-updated-picsFor nobility grinding this will do: european-war-4.boards.net/thread/2513/farming-nobility-chain-beast-efficient

Just to add, you may also refer to this link for a sea-based farming method: european-war-4.boards.net/thread/4686/medal-grinding-guide-battle-trafalgarI found this method really effective, as I can get about 9 medals to as high as 24 (highest number I got so far) medals per reload. Nelson and Collingwood will be enough, but the more gens you have, the higher their bonus life, the more medals you can get per reload. Be forewarned though, this method does not seem to get rank experience and the refresh rate gain is slower as compared to land-based farming. Once you earn a lot of medals you can use your earnings to buy yourself even better gens, trainer gens, and equipment such as Warhorse for the Geography skill and the Snaredrum for the Mass Fire skill. Below is my current setup. Nelson is such a naughty, naughty boy. .org/] [/url]

Thanks for all your advice. The links were great. But nothing can surpass the plans of world domination of King Charles XIV of Sweden. Ha ha ha!

PS 1 : I ain't Swedish. It's just that the idea of the Swedish Riksdag of the Estates choosing an enemy French general as their Crown Prince captured my imagination. PS 2 : Charles XIV is the regnal name that Bernadotte took when he succeeded to the Swedish throne. PS 3 : Check out the Swedish general in Europe 1815.

If you really want a good infantry general without using emblems, Dobeln seems like a good choice.

If you really want a good infantry general without using emblems, Dobeln seems like a good choice. In my current 1st run of EW4, I picked Döbeln as my main gen. Then I have princesses Kate & Sophia. Really wish I had a good cav gen now (stuck in HRE & Imperial Eagle).

Refresh farming... a necessary evil. But so darn boring!

Refresh farming... a necessary evil. But so darn boring! Not really IMO. Currently, I've trapped Golitsyn in my gen store and I'm using Arnold to buy some equipment till I regroup him for Dumouriez who is also available. (Note: I NEED a cav gen) I'm wasting most refreshes on tier 3 looking for a gen that I can get without IAP.

Below is my current setup. Nelson is such a naughty, naughty boy. One of my princesses (Maria) seems to have levelled up a rank this morning while I was playing this grind. Mind you, I did have "On War" installed on her, so perhaps that was making a difference and helping things move along faster. The thing about this grind is that with multiple generals and princesses, you only last 8-10 turns before all the enemy ships in your vicinity are dead or run away, after which it becomes pointless; it's then time to reload and start all over again. So there aren't many opportunities to engage in a fight, and these are further diminished by the fact that the AI doesn't always attack the general/princess-bearing ships. It's mainly a medal grind but it does have the advantage that once you set it up, it can be played without thought, tapping the end-turn button intermittently while doing more important things. That can get you a LOT of medals over a day.
