Promotions are like military rank upgrades but they cost gold instead and are unlocked. Are they unlocked from the very beginning? Because I have lvl7 HQ and still no option for promotion of my general...

Because I have lvl7 HQ and still no option for promotion of my general... I think to unlock them you need to complete a campaign with both sides Europe WW2 unlocks green promotion Pacific WW2 unlocks red promotion Cold War unlocks purple promotion

I just finished the Cold War missions and it’s impossible to unlock the purple rank. I can conclude that :
Unlocking red rank : Cold War Unlocking purple rank : Modern War

Is there any sense in using both - Prmotion and Military rank. You know, double impact or something like that...

And 205 percent health with purple rank, which makes you almost invincible if you use a Tank general.
Having a red rank is sometimes just enough sufficient to survive in Cold War missions, so I think that you can’t succeed those stages if you don’t promote your generals. And it will be the same with purple rank once Modern War missions will be available.

The abilities enemy generals get in invasions seem completely random. They will also often get medals for abilities they don’t have.

Is I worth it to upgrade all generals to Marshal? If I give them purple rank, the unit they are commanding will have THREE TIMES their normal health.

True, but after you build Angkor Wat which doubles the medals you receive from daily invasions, you can get large amount of medals quite easily. Plus, purple rank is a requirement if you want to complete the Modern War Hard missions.

If you can accumulate like 300 medals a day, it’s worth it.

After you reached Modern Day Campaigns and have exhausted most medal achievements, the most you can get per day is like 140

I have probably wasted 2K+ medals from successive mistakes and mistakes and that one time I accidentally dismissed Guderian.
