I've just started playing campaign and the thing I'd really like to know is what exactly I have to do to trigger victory; e.g. I just finished Return to Rhine, and the act which triggered victory was the conquest of Brussels. If I'd known that, I'd have headed straight for it but I fooled around conquering Munich and Verdun and going for the northern Italian cities; Brussels was just a sideshow which I was running with three light artillery and one infantry division against minimal opposition, and I was surprised as hell when conquering it ended the campaign!
Knowing how to do it step by step is not as important as knowing exactly what I have to achieve, and the in-game orders are sometimes unclear about this.
I suspect I will be trying to play it again, and this time go straight through with everything I've got and see what happens.

Actually, Return to Rhine has the objectives Munich, Weilburg, and Brussels. See the red flashy circle under these? That circle marks the objectives. Killing generals could be an objective as well. There is also the fort with the yellow flashy circle, that is the bonus objective.

Is the same true of future campaigns also? That would be of enormous assistance.

Yes, all campaigns have that so watch out for those red flashy circles. Sometimes, a random unit would randomly take an objective and cost you a lot of turns.
