Well I know, Holland is a part of the kingdom of the Netherlands, while Netherlands is a country North-Holland and South-Holland are both counties of the Netherlands. In the time I was born (somewhat 400 years ago), "Holland" (when South-Holland and North-Holland were the same) was geographically and economically the biggest county of the Netherlands
