Nobunaga Oda, Friedrich “Fried Rice” Paulus, and 8 more like this

this will be done like the works of Erich von Manstein . Use this as a reference, nothing more.
First general: Messe(550 medals)
But Leonid Govorov , look at his stars! Look at his skills, dear friend. Armoured assault the best skill for tanks, and Crowd tactics are good for support. Rumor adds up to survivability like NetherFreek said. Only for 550 medals, I call that a bargain! Don't upgrade him though.
(Optional) Leeb: The second-best artillery general. Rumor, artillery leader, plain fighting are all great skills, especially rumor as it is crucial for endgame(1980). Suitable for endgame, because of the reasons I just said.
Second general: Guderian(2935 medals)
Whoa, expensive, right? But he is the best general around. Armoured assault for output, check. Panzer leader for occasional pleasure, check. Blitzkrieg for survivability, check. This guy is an all-in-one pack, and you want him, sooner or later. So why not get him now?
Third general: Nimitz
Looks expensive. But with discounts, he can be cheaper than most generals! Why get a navy? For those (self-censored) pacific war campaigns. With decent output, he makes up for endgame. Yamamoto is better, sure but Yamamoto has one big weakness: his price.
Fourth general: Konev
Same as Nimitz, he looks expensive, but with discounts, you can enjoy him with Leeb's price. We need an arty, and we have one. He can also be a decent infantry, which means he is a hybrid. A good hybrid. The best artillery general ingame, I should say. For endgame uses also.
Fifth general: Rommel
Rommel is awesome. Rommel is great. Rommel is the best and Rommel is cheap. A god in Africa, a beast on other terrains. I know Dessert fighting isn't exactly the best skill to have, but his two free skill slots, armored assult, and crossfire more than makes up for it. Rommel, you magnificent bastard, you are on my shopping list!
That is all. After that, I recommend Leeb(second best artillery), Vatutin(a beast in a tank), Yamashita(A samurai), Rundstedt(A cheap alternative for Yamashita) or maybe Yamamoto(the best naval general ingame). After you have completed your "dream team" feel free to sell Messe. He worked too hard.
For those of you who bought IAP generals:
Manstein-Ignore Messe, go straight for Guderian
Eisenhower-Buy Nimitz later, or maybe don't buy him at all. Get Konev with your "Nimitz savings"
Zhukov-Same path. Konev is still a beast.
Avoid:
Tito-Why get an inf when you can get Messe just about a hundred medals higher?
Bargryaman-Just get Messe
Bock-A bit improved from Messe, yet 500 meds more expensive.

Govorov-His stars look shiny, right? Plus, he was a demigod on WC3 and GOG. Not here. His skills are absolute crap.
Patton-Three words: Worst. Tier. Three.
Macarthur: Go back to the Philippines. I am having fun with Yamashita and Rundstedt, thank you.
