I got assualt lvl 2 and maxed out artillary, I now feel the game is really fun since I am able to fight like in the older games in which tanks could continue to fight after destroying an unit. It is a shame that now I can have the feeling of having fun playing the game with continous tank fighting (since tank is king) and artillary being unable to be attacked back after firing.
Dont get me wrong I enjoyed the game from the begining and I espically enjoyed the tech tree idea, but the assualt ability and artillary disabling ability trully made this game less enjoyable. I know I have had more than my fare share of attacking a city, killing the unit and breaking the city defense, but having my tanks just stall out because even though I had a 75% chance to continue attacking I just got unlucky and etheir had to wait a turn to take the city (if they didnt spawn a unit in the city) or have to call in an air borne unit to land and take the city (late game units would land with almost no health thanks to the anti air placements, only to be killed by an enemy unit and having them take the city back).

It is less important in conquest because of paratroopers, but I can definitely relate to the tank troll in campaigns. Although it does seem to trigger more often than not (because it's 75% lol), there are a couple of turns where Guderian can't do anything because he stalls after the first attack. I don't like having to tolerate that.
On the flip side, I know exactly why they did it. The damage in WC4 is massively beefed up. Guderian hits infantry for 250 damage when his leader skill triggers. If tanks could continue attacking 100% of the time, infantry would be completely useless and smashing artillery would be a cakewalk. You could always end your turn in a favorable position as well because you can chain together attacks and then still move. The assault cheese has saved me in conquest as many times as its screwed me over since the AI fails to capture easy cities. So while it is a burden until late late game, I can tolerate it.
As for artillery, my rockets have an 80% dodge chance which works consistently.
