Does anyone know how the rankings of your generals works?
According to mine my Barbarossa (level 25, 1159 HP, 289 attack, 110 defence) is apparently better than my Lincoln (level 40, 1480 HP, 352 attack, 151 defence).

I remember Nobunaga was between Cath and Robin Maybe there is some kind of logic behind all that, but I'm sure that human beings unable to understand it

Barbarossa is ranked higher due to him being purple general. I am not sure how much it factors in the ranking but I noticed it and that stats do effect the ranking as their rank goes down when I removed equipment from a general.

That makes sense, I guess it must have some weight in the complex algorithm that only ET understands. Btw when you guys talk about gold & purple generals etc how do you arrive at the classification? Is it just the background colour of their icons?

Is it just the background colour of their icons? Yes, it's by background colours. Their base stats are tied to their colours. Starting with the weakest Grey, then Blue, Purple & lastly, Gold, the "strongest" type of gen.

But what I like about EW5 is the fact that a straightforward strategy - to buy all golden generals and win the game - doesn't work here. In EW5 you really need a team to be successful (and not just collection of generals). To be honest it is a rare exception in ET games. In other projects (like WC) it is very difficult to be creative because list of names for the final lineup is really limited.

In WC series (huge map, a lot of enemies) it is almost impossible to use it particularly in conquests. A lot of players will say: "It is too challenging!"

In WC series (huge map, a lot of enemies) it is almost impossible to use it particularly in conquests. A lot of players will say: "It is too challenging!" That's true. But there are dozens of generals in WC whose names are unknown to majority of players simply because they never even consider to hire them (and for the right reason!). 3 Art generals(including Zhukov), a couple of Inf generals (chances you will use them are low anyway), a couple of Navy generals - that's all we really have in WC. The situation is slightly better with tank generals. The rest are either weak or have a bizarre combination of skills. The same was in WC3 and EW4. But as we know there are 15 different generals in final lineups in EW5. 15!!! And I'm sure there are other decent candidates (Blucher or Lionheart among others, for example)...

Am I even upgraded in any way & what equipment do I have? In this image gallery all generals are presented fully upgraded but without any equipment. What are his stats in this presentation? Is it possible he was one of the first to have his equipment removed and the lineup just hasn't been refreshed, so to speak?

Maybe the total number of medals used to upgrade skills is also considered. Nobunaga's Spy and Leadership are quite "cheap", whereas commander skill, armor expert/master, defense expert/master, or general/marshal are more expensive.
