Here is a riddle I commanded my unit in one of the most brilliant victory of a world war. I commanded a whole front after that victory and later the whole national army. Who am I ? Additional Hint if you want I met Adolf Hitler personally at least once. Hindenburg? Battle of Tannenburg. He was given command of German Eastern Front after that victory. He was made Chief of General Staff in 1916. He met Hitler during his inauguration. You got it right. |

I played important role in that world war and planned an important offensive and a defensive line.

I betrayed my country, but also vowed to not let my fleet fall into German hands
I was captured by Henri Giraud's forces when they rushed Algiers in anticipation of Operation Torch
Dwight D. Eisenhower made a deal with me that seemed controversial
I was assassinated by a pro monarchist before the war ended
