- He was a Japanese officer who served from 1905 - 1945.
- He was the first confirmed officer who instituted a major series of crimes which people East Asian states are demanding apologies and compensation for, from Japan today.
- During WW2, he held a number of commander-in-chief positions, was authorised to enact many Japanese military war crimes + policies, and represented the Imperial Japanese Army in the China-Burma-India Theatre during the surrender.

- After WW2, he was "found not guilty of any war crimes in January 1949 by the Shanghai War Crimes Tribunal."
- He returned to his homeland in 1949 and passed away in 1966.
- When questioned by investigators, he testified about the Nanjing Massacre.
