Born in 1915 at his family's ancestral home in Perthshire, Scotland
Commissioned in the Scots Guards but he's known for his association with another regiment
He saw action in the Mediterranean & middle east, before he was eventually captured and saw out the war as a PoW in Colditz

- He was a Japanese officer who served from 1905 - 1945.
- He was the first confirmed officer who instituted a major series of crimes which people East Asian states are demanding apologies and compensation for, from Japan today.
- During WW2, he held a number of commander-in-chief positions, was authorised to enact many Japanese military war crimes + policies, and represented the Imperial Japanese Army in the China-Burma-India Theatre during the surrender.

- After WW2, he was "found not guilty of any war crimes in January 1949 by the Shanghai War Crimes Tribunal."
- He returned to his homeland in 1949 and passed away in 1966.
- When questioned by investigators, he testified about the Nanjing Massacre.
