He attained a Knight's Bachelor from the Queen in 1966 I think We're gonna need more clues. The guy I was trying to think of was Hugh Trevor-Roper, aka Lord Dacre, but it's not him.

he edited the Rommel Papers, and was supposedly the one with others like JFC Fuller to influence the Panzerwaffe to develop Blitzkrieg doctrines through their scholarly historical articles published pre-war. The Other Side of the Hill and The German Generals Talk were some noteworthy interviews, and his most influential work was the military strategy book titled Strategy. His name contains the name of a herb in it.
