Depends on how much you want to spend. In EW4, I seem pretty okay with my generals.
In WC4, I am also chugging along fine without paying a single cent.
Spending money is for those times when you are either seriously struggling or just want those IAP generals.

In WC3 I spent a lot of money because I was in trouble. In ew4 I bought 4 slots and some emblems. I like to have powerful generals! 😎
