Revision on my former stance:
I didn't know plain fighting also worked on cities, so I revise my review about Montgomery.
Quality: 4/5
Cost effectiveness: 2/3 (reasonable)
He may not be as good as Rommel or Graziani (let alone Guderian), but he is in fact better than any silver tiers. If he had panz leader and rumor, he's better than Vatutin. If he had crowd tactics and rumor, he's better than Timoshenko. If he had jungle fighting and rumor, he's better than Sun L.R. . He is comparable to Rokossovsky, his crossfire is comparable to tide of iron, his plain fighting is also comparable to panz leader (since it also works on cities). However, his elastic defense is indeed useless. He is basically Rommel with plain fighting and some air powers.
His important abilities are panzer 5/6, air force 4/5, and movement 3/4. He can be good at defending cities and attacking in plains/cities, he can also carry out some air assaults with his air stars. Not a recommended panzer-air hybrid, but his air stars do play some roles.
Give him armored assault and rumor so he can blast off enemies in plains and cities and activate 'assault'.

I would personally buy him as my 5th panzer gen. His role would be to support attacks, defending front lines (plain or city) while giving some air supports when needed.

I like Patton better cuz he already has the 6th star but when fully maxed, Monty will be better. |

I always think tanks are the ONLY viable defenders. I think that's about Monty, I said he can't be a viable defender, not tanks in general. Second best Tanker, give him Rumor and Armoured (Armored?) Assault/ Machinist. Give him a massive 210% counterattack, or make him amazingly survivable. Don't believe in his capabilities? Look at Rommel 40%. A mega beast, and my primary tanker because I don't like to buy Guderian. Saves you a ton on Air gens too.

Yes, at the start, Rommel is Much better. But If you give Rommel Rumor and PL, then that is the best he can be. Monty will get Rumor and AA, then he will have Air+Elastic Defense (better than Desert Fighting when maxed out, and not completely useless when maxed out)+Plain Fighting versus PL and Desert Fighting (the worst skill in the game when maxed out). |
