Seems alright, but when you can get Nimitz for 948 less medals and can be an navy/air hybrid, is he really worth it?

Well you do require a second navy gen for 1980 campaigns as per the guides in the forum. So who else is better than me? (Sees kuznetsov and proceeds to hide him). I am definitely the second choice for a navy gen.

I am definitely the second choice for a navy gen. Yeah, if you want a cheaper but less harder hitting general you might consider Kuznetsov. If you want a more expensive but more powerful general that can have two other skills, you're the way to go.

Air generals are usually properly bought as Yamamoto/Dowding/Arnold Yamamoto would've been OP if he had his skills levelled up. I just don't see the point of paying a ton of medals and then upgrading him even more to make him effective. It is true that he's an excellent art-air-navy hybrid. But for an f2p like me with average skills the price is too much.

Even though Nimitz costs less, the skills he has aren't that good in my opinion. Don't forget to let Kuznetsov do his thing on a cruiser as well.

He is definitely worth it even in his price. He is a purebred navy general. I and my brother bought him and he proves his worth on every navy missions and invasions. In fact, he is my first navy general I get (2nd of my brothers, he bought Nimitz first). He is the "Guderian of the Navy" a must get. After I buy him, I feel no need for Nimitz (Kuznetsov? Haha, what did you say?) because Doenitz is basically worth a Nimitz and a Kuznetsov in one pack + high defense (rank) and unit maintenance (depot ship).
He is great on both submarines and cruisers. I use him in navy invasions and I rarely lose any units. Usually, I put him on a 3 stacked submarine and sorround him with 4 × 2 stacked cruisers, and he beasts my seas. His lv4 wolfpack allow me to do + 16 damages to the sorrounding 4 × 2 stacked cruisers, giving me + 64 naval damage to the sorrounding cruisers. He also has 3 fleet leader, allowing him to do critical damages oftenly (24% chance). His depot ship supplies +6hp/turn, maintaining the unit's health. Also, he is damn fast like Guderian as well. And as bonus, he has 2/4 artillery stars (although I am not planning to make him an artillery hybrid but his artillery capability was pretty useful back then + high rank and movement).
As for the other two empty skill slots, I would recommend rumor (obligatory) and sailor (optional). If you want to add explosives for cruisers, go ahead, because his empty slot is pretty much a free slot. But I recommend sailor because it will make him the only perfect navy general with fleet leader, wolfpack, rumor, depot ship, and sailor (just as perfect as Guderian can be as a panzer general).
Note: buy him after you have 2 artilleries and 3 tanks.

I guess it's about your own self, you should know better than me 😂 Hmm why sailor? Donitz is a specialised submarine general, and with the absence of explosives he cannot do too much as a cruiser general as well. If we accept the hypothetical scenario of DOnitz on submarine and Nimitz on cruiser, then Donitz wouldn't need sailor, for submarines usually get range-attacked, and even if destroyers attack then it would be the same logic as having crossfire on artillery generals. I would go for cover since the damage dodge is quite useful, albeit being rare

Because Nimitz has ace forces (which is useful on submarines) and camouflage (which is also useful because submarines are vulnerable against air strikes). Even if you want to make it historically accurate, mine is still more accurate. Nimitz served as a submarine commander in WWII and Doenitz was promoted to Grand Admiral (which is above all navy admirals) in 1943. But if you want to give him cover, go ahead, it's a free space 😄

If you compare wolfpack having it on donitz as a sub is more beneficial due to him possessing higher mobility than Nimitz on a cruiser, in which mobility is a great complement to support-aura generals. And if you want to view it in another way for the historical context, being a Commander of the Pacific Theatre Nimitz was more associated with the bigger battleships and carriers that the Pacific Fleet possessed, whilst Donitz will always be viewed antagonistically with his rival, Raeder, both whom have vastly different theories on German's naval force, with submarines being placed in question.

Additionally, I can choose to substantiate the point about ace forces being more useful on cruisers, since it boosts through percentage, and cruisers have more health than submarines, so they can benefit more. Like I said, it is pretty much a free space. You can add any skill you like there, it won't help that much either (I'm planning to add a new skill when I'm already super rich). But about the ace forces, here is my theory. We rarely get any submarines from the start of a mission/conquest. Submarines can only attack once/turn whilst cruisers get many hits (not only from the seas but also from the ground), therefore they gain rank promotions much faster than submarines. From beginning you usually get a high-ranked cruisers so there is no need for ace forces. And what are its uses on cruisers? Cruisers are basically sea panzers in naval battles and coastal-fort destroyers. You usually make 3 stacked submarine in port and assign a general on it. Therefore ace forces is useful under the circumstances, plus they only attack once/turn (which make them slow to get rank promotions). When you make submarines in the first place, what are your expectations? You want it to destroy large battleships and carriers fast right? That's it! With ace forces your submarine will level up quick and ready to destroy enemy cruisers and carriers in a blink an eye (don't forget submarine attacks are twice as hard when attacking cruisers and carriers). You may already know but each rank promotion gives you +20 hp, +2 def, +4 atk. So 5 ranking submarines get a damage boost of 20 (twice to large ships-> 20×2=40). 40 damage plus? That's huge.. But Navy is the most flexible things to me. As long as it works, as long as you can transport ground units effectively, destroy coastal-forts, and destroy enemy reinforcements in the sea, it is okay. Cruiser and submarine generals are flexible to me, they are not much different either as they come from the same branch (Navy). If you want to custom your navy generals, go ahead, I am just sharing my understanding about naval battles.
