but AF leader makes him a hybrid Lol, you don't know the true concept of hybrid then. Where you will put him then? Carrier? that will waste his navy skill/stars. Dont give him AF just because Nimitz has 5 air star, it will only hinder his true navy potential. Here's the example of hybrid gen skill set: - Graziani with Rumor + AA do - All of Zhukov's skill doesn't counter his main role as an arty gen (he's the best hybrid in game) However, it can be argued that there will not always be a naval unit, so AL could be useful in that aspect, from a campaign and Domination viewpoint, rather than a speedrunner's.

I used Nimitz in UN4 hard, used his rumor and air stars. I'd prefer him has 5 skills for navy (and 4 for land without Fleet leader), than 4 skills for his main strength (and 4 for his hybrid role). Plus 1220 medals for a mere 40%chance? without any medal boost? that's a waste. See Graziani, Zhukov, even Konev for earlier infantry invasion mode. They don't sacrifice any skill slot to strengthen their alter role. And that's what i called a good hybrid.

Nimitz is a good air hybrid for levels without navy

Without airforce leader, he can still be rumor gen in levels without navy

The most expensive Non-IAP General in the game, in fact 10 medals more than Gudy.

I have Donitz, Nimtz and Kutznetov and I use them in that order if needed. My Nimitz has Rumor and explosives and mostly used on cruisers but will use him on a Supercarriers if available/needed as explosives skill does activate on these. Don't remember if rumor does when counterattacking units next to him.

I used Mountbatten with rumor equipped on carrier and proceed to inflict rumor on the enemy.

Obviously it wouldn’t work on submarines. It really depends on the rumor level.

Yes, it activates in counter attack except vs air of course and subs, and land units more than one hex away.

With no navy generals and poor navy tech, I can confirm that the all-aircraft strategy works! I had Manstein, Arnold, and Guderian on the 3 super carriers and Konev on double cruiser. After using all carriers and cruisers, I just added a 3 stack sub for the final slot. You can replace Manstein with messe, too, I suppose. All carriers target Nagumo with the sub (it dies in 2 turns), while you send your cruiser force to attack Yama. If you can, take out units surrounding Halsey to help him get out of confusion. Nagumo should die by turn 7, and you should let AI America take the port to produce subs. Send your highest speed stat gen on the super carrier near the bottom left port, and capture it after you kill Yama. Use air to take down any units in the way of your carrier taking the port. Time wasn't too much of an issue, so don't worry. I took minimal casualties, only losing the sub.
Definitely possible with poor tech and no navy generals. When you buy Nimitz, you have 4 distinct options you can choose.
Hybrid: Rumor and AL. It's self explanatory, though I don't recommend this set. There are far better air generals out there IMO, and if you used Arnold for this mission, then you don't need Nimitz as an air general. The Tank: Rumor and Cover. This will make him a pain in the arse to beat. Perfect for invasions and just being a troll to the AI. Very costly, but Nimitz will become unstoppable. Pair this with the naval medal, and you got a better version of supply depot. The Wrecking Ball: Rumor and Explosive. This is perfect for Frontier mode when you have a navy. Max cruiser skill (+100% to fortifications) + max explosives + FL = devastated fortress. This also works great for dealing with pesky coastal guns and conquest when dealing with capital cities. I usually do this set. Social Distancing: Rumor + Sailor. Nimitz on Cruiser, he can shoot at any navy for counterattack (minus subs ofc). Sailor gives him a max 30% boost when counterattacking. Pair with rumor, the enemy navy will become immobile in no time. Perfect for invasions, too.
Honorable mentions: Rumor + Supply Depot, Rumor + WP, Rumor + CB, Rumor + Shelter
Basically, give Nimitz rumor and whatever skill you think will fit him best. Do you use him for invasions only? Probably Social distancing or the tank. Is he your savior for Frontier, do the Wrecking Ball. I also agree with the tried and true Nimitz double cruiser, Doenitz triple sub, Arnold/Dowding/Yama carrier.
I may be late for the party, but I thought I'd add this just so new players, or veterans, to see that the strategy still works, and to give overall good advice. Usually people skip to the final page for the most recent strategies, so here you go!

Nimitz honestly feels kind of like what happens when someone who's never played WC4 before tries to make an air-navy hybrid. You gotta give him at least one starting air skill lol.

I plan to use him primarily on carriers because I'm also going to get Donitz. Any suggestions on what skill to put on his 4th and 5th slot?
