Sorry if this is the wrong board, move it if you consider it necessary mods.
Easytech has already made several games about the WW2 era, and the one of the main focuses on them were the generals. In GoGs you could buy just barely more than 100 generals (and the offer is very similar in the first one and the Pacific, in the latter <10 generals were changed with others), while WC3 added a lot more, bringing the total number to 155.(correct me if I am wrong). Althought the same generals are featured in WC4 as in WC3(+the special terro ones, based on the no-eyes of WC3), many complain that the buying offer is reduced by a lot, because now you can only buy 55 generals. One should note that these are at least decent, so this action made our job easier. I shall proceed analyzing how they improved or gooten worse from previous game.
Note that even if in GoG you couldn't upgrade generals in any way, and they were really expansive, the fact that you had only one slot, made the (tank) general you bought, (or really anyone with 4 medals) extremely OP. Also in WC3, you could only get better rank, while in WC4, with some investment you can make every general available really good. I used Glory of Communism Mod in WC3 (that's how so many medals) because I no longer had the game and the generals are hidden in the beggining.
Proceeding in GoG order from bad to good. If a country features only one general which has been changed (like Bose and Thimayya for India), I will consider them the same person. Overall is based on a simulated battle against one-another on preffered unit, regardless of medal costs or other gameplay enhancements.Pictures from shop of Konev, Leeb, Messe, Tito, Crerar in WC4 would be helpful.
THE BRONZE GENERALS(none are good )
Plaek-Phibun
I feel bad for him. It's literally the same. True, the GoG would beat WC3 without a problem, but 390 medals is quite a lot in GoG and can be better spent on our guy upgrades. At least in WC3 he can be useful in mission, and he is cheap. And in WC4 he is the same. Overall: Worse
Bose-Thimayya
The weird thing about GoG is that is ask different amount of medals for exactly the same number of skills and rank (compare with fellow Plaek). At least you can say that the WC3 is on par with its GoG counterpart, and maybe even a little better, but notice that it costs 420 medals now, not a mere 200 like Phibun. And in WC4 he lost all his skills Overall: From worse to bad to worst
Crace
The cheapest navy guy... and the worst. While the stars are not that bad, (despite you need at least 3 medals to see good damage in GoG, and navy is really weak) the rank is just bad, especially in WC3, where 50 health means nothing and navy's can't regen in any way. The 2s are pretty much on par, but I think WC3 is slightly better. Regarding WC4, ET are lazy again (but understandable). Still, I believe camouflage is better than Defense in the seas. Overall: Infinitesimally better in WC3, same for WC4
Camacho
The first guy who gets a tank medal in GoG. Mehico Stronk!. Nope. It's the same case as with Plaek, but at least he seems equal in both games(if ignore that one star is worse than one medal. Overall:Slightly worse, then slightly better
Chung
Wow, the actual real improvement so far. The WC3 version is an almost decent artillery commandar, while GoG one is just a joke. In WC 4 he is better too! (Blue Colonel is 138% HP). I believe he just fell short to be included in the shop. Overall: Better, massive improvement from GoG
Haakon-Olav
In GoG: Same as Crace, more expansive than him. But if you ask me, the fact that he's a king and the moustache are worth 30 medals without a doubt. The WC3 version is just a joke, but at least cheap. In WC4 1939 conquest he is the only sergeant in the world (counting generals from neutral). Still fleet leader is pretty good. Overall: Below average to joke to barely decent.
Biriuzov
Ok.. the first GoG exclusive. Considering we have so many Soviet generals in WC3, please propose me his spiritual succesor. . This guy was a marshall, so I think he deserves to live on. The first one to have 2 arty medals make him a decent choice for beggining game (but not reccomanded still). Overall: ? ? ?
Christian
Poor infantry commander... at least the WC3 version is almost the same as GoG (but still 2 medals in GoG are like 3 stars in WC3).In WC4 he can somewhat fight... but supply is better if fleeing.Overall:Slightly worse then about the same.
Kulle?-Kluge
The first German in GoG and also the first with 2 tanks medals. Really solid choice for a starting general. In WC3, Blitzkrieg will deceive you, since even at level 4, it is really weak. (but good for missions). Weirdly enough, ET made him a weak artillery commander in WC4. That is the second best use (after air) for a low health general like him. Overall: Much worse then a bit better, but not close to GoG legend.
Bagramyan
WC4 photo coming soon
Another big change. He evolved considerably from a subpar infantry commander to an average tank with high survivability. No major change in WC4, but losing that OP Tide of Iron hurts. Overall: Major improvement, then slight regression.
VanFleet
Despite the name, he can't command fleets at all... and also needs a spiritual succesor; he lived for 100 years from 1892-1992. Overall:? ? ?
Qing
Another exclusive... maybe he is in WC3 but I don't know. Either way, VanFleet is cheaper and also has +1 tank medal...ET pricing seems off...
Eaker
WC4 photo coming soon
He can't fight without his airplanes. The cheapest general in GoG to have 3 medals in something (wait... Novikov is 550), which is most of the time good enough... but air is expansive . In WC3 he is still good, has high rank and it's pretty cheap. In WC4 he loses all his rank...and skill. Overall: Better then worse than before.
Araki
Not featured anymore...(due to war crimes maybe). The cheapest 3 medal infantry. For those who don't know GoG, don't think that infantry had a better fate here than in the newer games... I can almost certainly tell that tanks due get a bonus against it. 64+ HP is also a problem. Anyway, not worth it. Overall: ? ? ?
Dietrich
The "ruler" is the first general to get 3 mdals in artillery, which makes him a good tank smasher. Not a bad choice. Overall: ? ? ?
Salazar
Not worth your attention. I might consider his succesor the no-eyed commander Europe in Portugal in conquest.. and that would be quite an improvement. Overall: ? ? ?
Spaatz
Kawashima
I sometimes wonder if ET games reflect some sort of new views upon the world... like Manchukao is not featured anymore, or China is not involved in WC4's Pacific campaigns. Anyway, the only things that make him stand out are the nice flag background and the fact he looks like a kid. Overall: ? ? ?
Ishihara
Is he anymore? I don't know sadly. Again, not worth your time. Ku... Kluge rulez all low-cost generals in GoG. Overall: ? ? ?
Novikov
WC4 photo coming soon
Same as Eaker, cheaper than Eaker (I still remember how annoying were his forces during that Japanese campaign in China). On the way to now, he lost some air capability, he gained some artillery power. Overall:Worse, then really slight improvement.
Tito
WC4 photo soon (please PM me a clean WC4 Tito from the shop.... I don't want to PS him )
The smile is worth it if you ask me. Otherwise... not so great. He got a little better in WC3, and also in WC4 (cheapest general in WC4!!!) Overall:Better, than slightly better
Boris

The first to have amedal in everything... and therefore the most expansive with only 1 medal. At least in WC3 he gets a slight arty focus, which makes him slightly better than his former-self and no eyed (and also ok price). In WC4 he gets lv2 Plain, which is pretty good. Overall: Better then better.
Winkelman
WC4 picture coming soon
Lv1 skills don't compensate for loss of health and medals/stars. Overall:Slightly Worse
Crerar
He is an interesting one. Quite average in GoG (same as Kulle, but 100 medals more expansive) and surprising in WC3, if used proprerly with his plain fighting. In WC4, he is quite clearly an infantry general with some tank and arty ability.... crowd tactics can prove powerful for allied units. Overall:Better than worse
