This is my team I used to complete everything in the game. I still haven't cleared any of CWE or UN conquests just because I haven't played them, but it's no problem to clear those conquests even without gens, I just left conquests to clear last to do it faster, cleared only 39 and 43 to get AA and blitz medals. Lv3 desert for Rommel and lv2 crowd for Timoshenko I upgraded just for investigation, they weren't used. So many upgrades are not required, even on last levels it didn't look to be impossible with weaker gens. I think it definitely have to be possible with Rommel and Konev having upgraded only lv5 rumor. Detailed:

Tech is almost maxed (I have everything that can be useful and just started to add all other crap). In fact the only critical upgrades are 100% assault for tanks and 100% no retalliation for RAs, building nukes in 2 turns is good too. Sure, others are welcome, but not so much. I have farmed initially quite a lot (scenarios on autoplay) but I stopped it quite soon and I don't think it have to be a problem in late game to get resources for upgrades. Especially if you clear conquests.

I must say impressive.. I have donitz, rosok and yamamoto instead of leeb and timo... max tech tree and guderian and konev arealready upgradedpartly... but in some of the hard union levels my generals are easily destroyed...
I willdo the exercises with this set and then therafter will sell donitz and yama for getting leeb and more upgrades i think.
Specific strategy that helps for these missions?

I wouldn't do that, if I were you. I have almost completed all hard missions with 3 stars as well (only for two missions I have 2 stars), and, though I have Leeb, I rarely used him. I used Arnold instead of Yamamoto with a great success as Art general at the beginning (using his Rumor) and as Aviation general when time is ripe. And Yamamoto is far better. Give to him Rumor and Crowd tactics, upgrade his aviation skills and Explosives, and he will be an excellent support general for your team. If you completed all Domination battles - then you can sell Doenitz, but it is ill-advised to do it before that. In missions 5, 8 and 9 I used 2 Navy generals and only 4 land generals. And it is very important, btw, to see what AI is doing every turn. For example, in mission 2 if AI starts to spam battleships early on - then your cause is as good as lost. You simply don't have enough resourses to oppose it. But if, on the other hand, you can occupy a port as soon as possible, - then you can move your troops without much troubles and save your resourses for rockets and nukes... And as always timing is very important. Try to use moral decrease of enemies, encircle them before attack, exploit Rumor extensively (you have enough generals with it - Guderian, Konev, Rommel, Doenitz and hopefully Yamamoto). Btw, there are andrei 's videoguides european-war-4.boards.net/thread/7870/un-campaign-hard-mode-videoguideOr, for example, here UN4 Blitzkrieg strategy

In fact Leeb is not a key person, just #2 art gen, whose main mission is to confuse enemies. Yama with rumor won't be notably worse, though I don't think he is worth his price at all, especially if you have Nimitz. My strategy for UN was just not to allow enemies to shoot to my gens and to confuse enemy gens as fast as possible, which in most cases can be done in 1 turn even with 3-4 gens (-1 morale for flanking and 2 rumors), if for that purpose are used RAs or Guderian with 90% blitz, that means you won't even get hurt. After gen is confused, in case you are in a hurry, you can just leave weakest gen to keep confusion. In most cases 1 gen can keep it at least for some 8-9 turns. If enemy gen is inside the city, Guderian can confuse him from first turn even alone if you destroy city's hp first with ion canon. That in most cases happens with the last gen - 2 shots of Guderian (50% chance -2 morale) and -1 morale for flanking with the help of paratrooper. Also you have to hide behind your allies as much as possible, when it's not possible, give enemies anyone to shot to instead of your gens.
