I once got Scharnhorst as my first general. With that, all I am going to say is that you can do it, but be aware that when you do campaign missions and/or conquests, there may not be artillery for you to work with.
Scharnhorst himself is a good general in my opinion, but another professional judgement may be needed.

A good cavalery general would be the best choice,is Scharnhorst one? As for artillery, get Sofia by conquest and you are off to a good start.

Kutaisov is also a great starting general for artillery, and much less expensive. I would recommend him.

He is a trainer, has engineering, 3 training stars, and output comparable to nelson on artillery. Heck yeah he is a good general. But golitsyn might he a better choice.

I would reccomend getting a cavalry gen or a hybrid. Good hybrid’s are rather expensive. I agree fully with the cavarly tip, as you get Sophia very early on. Dumouriez is the most cost effective candidate

What about Wittgenstein?

Oh yeah forgot about him. Yeah he is good. Sakurako is also another option for a hybrid. I feel as though a pure cav is smarter to get in the beginning, as infantry isn’t really needed for a while.
