So I've just started playing this game again and wondered if anyone would care to give me a quick summary of the main principles of how to approach it, or point me to a suitably succinct thread (i.e. not 20 odd pages) please?
I played it several years ago but I'm fairly sure I didn't complete it and was totally unaware of this site at the time so I pretty much muddled my way through it. I've also played WC3, GoG2 & EW5 since then so am more familiar with ET games now.
I guess the main things for now are what I should be using my medals for, which generals to aim for, should I be buying all the gold stars I come across, anything really so as to avoid any major errors until I have the time to read up properly.
TIA.

Thanks Nobby, I did see that thread but I was hoping for something a bit snappier that I can read in minute

Dobeln and Kutaisov are great generals to start with; they're both trainers, but they pack a punch and are affordable. I would avoid buying items or stars right away. Infact, I rarely used stars to upgrade my campaign units, so they're not a huge deal.

Plus, the speed of cav units is definitely gonna help your progress.

How does refreshing the academy work? If I refresh how long would it be for him to reappear? Yep, someone like Dumouriez. When you kill enemies, your accumulate %. Once you accumulate 100%, you get 1 refresh (you'll see a symbol). Refresh basically changes the lineup of gens on sale for that SPECIFIC tier. Then, you can tap the refresh ticket & refresh that SPECIFIC tier of gens. For example, you are on the tier 3 gen page & you tap refresh, the line-up of tier 3 gens change.

Ah cool, so I can have a good look at everyone then just go on a killing spree to refresh to get the one I want. I'll probably buy Dumouriez first though as he seems to be well regarded from the little research I've done.

I have one general which one should I buy this Sorry, but you'll have to elaborate more on what you're looking for & your current situation. Your question seems very vague.

Assuming that he has a decent general to start out with, I think that the best possible course of action would be to hire Kahia.

I'm looking for an artillery general and I have abercromby Kutaisov (tier 1) or Scharnhorst should be enough. Sophia is also a good pick if you are patient enough to train her & increase her arty *s.
