stoic, xerexes, from what I have understood surprise attack increases the attack in the following way (I will be using Murat atm as an example): If Murat moves 2 hexes from his position at the start of his turn and he attacks a unit the damage will be increased more then moving 1 hex and it will probably won’t affect the attack if Murat isn’t moving, but someone is gonna have to test that.

Now I'm choosing between him a Ney, that means between Plain fighting and chance for continuous attack. Therefore I'm very curious about Surprise attack . I have to understand what it is, before I make a decision who will be my sole Cav general for the near future... I am a simple man. I foresee there will be no way I would be spamming Calvary from stables to make use of the Calvary commander Murat has as its too expensive. Even in conquests only units I spam is rifleman as they move around faster. Therefore Murat will never be my first choice Calvary generals. Maybe as tech gets better and Calvary do not die easily, they will be usable again. For now, I bought Davout. On every stage there is most likely a given Calvary unit with promotions given to you at the beginning of the stage. That's basically the only Calvary unit I used and with an ambulance he doesn't die at all. Calvary commander can go up to range of 2 hex. Will Murat be viable? Maybe. In the future when mobility for Calvary(Surprise Attack) is upgraded and princess (Maria) is promoted. Until then, I am sorry I just don't see him becoming my first Calvary general. No, I meant that I choose between Paget and Ney, therefore I was speaking about myself as a mere mortal

That seems to be logical and fits well into description... The question is how significant this damage will be increased?

That I do not know but am curious about it, if I had enough medals I would have bought him but I don’t, I could save up for him But I only 300 medals so it would take a while. I hope that someone can test it.

Unfortunately it could happen that by the time player cares about Cav gen upgrade (cav is the latest focus at least for now) most of the game content will be completed

This is probably the one place the game has taken a step back. They don't give the exact numbers for some skills. Thankfully surprise attack seems to be the only general skill that does not give its numbers.
The other examples are the unit specific skills. Artillery skill has a "certain possibility" the enemy will not attack back. What is "certain possibility"?
