Edit: I am adding juljas video as it shows an updated additional method of completing this conquest plus he deserves more exposure to his channel
juljas Youtube channel: Here
1st try at the Sardinia 1798 conquest with 2 generals:
2nd Sardinia 1798 conquest, this time with just 1 general and 3 stolen towns that were aquired with half dead (super low hps ) militias:
Explanation of this conquest:
Sardinia is a 1 star country but might actually be one of the best way to farm gold in the 1798 conquest mode and here is the kicker:
You only need one general.
That's right..a single general and you accomplish this conquest strictly as a navy power with just 1 or 2 ships. If you use 2 or more generals then it gets easier.
A word of warning though: Depending on what tactics you want to use, it can takes quite a few medals and gold investment to be properly prepared and have a good setup for this, at least for more consistent results.
The Setup:
General:Nelson is great for this but even Jones works fine. Jones is affordable at something like 1300 medals but you will need many more medals to upgrade him.
Technology:Upgrade the navy and the infantry techs (militia)for best results.
Items:Besides a good navy general that is upgraded you need the ambulance ( hp regen item: 30 hps/round) another HP regen item works even better.
Objective: Hold your starting city, that's all you have to do on this conquest !! This is because your allies are strong enough to do almost all of the conquest work by themselves.
Start of the game:
Updated:it is far more efficient to simply use the money on diplomacy: make critical allies enter the war early and make the stronger enemies enter the war later.
Turn 1:
Tactics: Hit and run Your 1 navy general (2 is easier and faster if you want to do it that way) fights in defense of your single city until he takes too much damage and at that point runs away to heal.
When you run to regen health use that opportunity to attack a city or a unit that doesn't fight back, that way you are helping your allies a little. As soon as you have a reasonable amount of health get back to help defend the city.
Highly likely your starting land general will get bombarded to oblivion so since there is no threat of loosing city atm might as well move him to the 15% bonus tile and attack a ship there. Enemy ground units at sea are priority if they are about to take your town or else target ships. Turn 1 below:
Your navy ship priority: (in relation to health)Attack enemy ships when in full health. Attack enemy units (that can't retaliate) when low on health. Doing this maximize the item regen effect.
Military purchases:buy militia only, hopefully you upgraded the militia tech so they can take a few hits.Do not attack any units with your land militia unless the enemy is at sea (they get a large combat penalty that way). Depending on what the AI does you might be able to buy a ship and stick another navy general on it.If not just keep buying militia. You only need 1 militia that has enough health to defend your city next round.
Surviving tip and low health units: The reason you don't want to attack any land units with your militia is that you have very limited income and you need your units to survive a couple turns before you can afford to buy another replacement. If your militia is about to die move it out of the city and buy a new full health militia or else it's [game over] next turn. Use these evacuated low health militia to try to steal an enemy city that you bombarded earlier with your ship that ran away to heal. Chances are you will be intercepted but it's definitively worth a shot.
Surrounded city: When your city is completely surrounded and the defending militia is low on health attack a unit and hopefully your militia dies and make room to buy a fresh replacement (although this can result in making an enemy unit gain morale), if that doesn't happen open the unit profile and disband your low health unit so you can buy a fresh one that can survive the next round of attacks. Also try to break that siege asap because a completely surrounded unit suffers a double morale down penalty and so the enemy units might be able to take it down in one round and seize the city.
Remember your objective is not to win (your allies will do that for you), you just need to stall and survive long enough.
Diplomacy to speed up allies entry into war or slow down enemies entry into it: Some of these offers the AI gives you are well worth accepting. Keep in mind you need to have enough cash on hand to be able to buy a fresh militia at any time the one defending gets low on hps or else you loose the city and the game on the next turn. Below are examples of 3 accepted offers that came from the Ottoman, the Italians and the Russians. If the cash is not immediately needed to buy a defender go for it! Notice how cheap these offers were (it may be because the AI asks for a percentage of what you have and Sardinia is very poor) :
In conclusion:
There might be other ways of doing this conquest but basically you start with a frigate and the objective is just to survive the onslaught until the British navy shows up and help you. When that happens assist them by placing your ship so as to lower enemy morale like below:
From the screen shot above you can see I only got 34 kills during the entire conquest, Sardinia allies actually do all of the conquest work. All I did is live long enough and got a few stolen cities here and there and this ends up in: Good gold reward+princess. Depending on the variations of your game and how the AI acts, you may be able to clear the French navy within like 8 turns and it's a win already ,game over for the AI, you are actually in the mopping up phase after that. Auto-play is viable after that but some members have reported phone battery issues in the past on that mode, so YMMV.
Here is Turn 8, it's practically over for the French navy the game is won already:
The benefit to this farming "conquest" is that it's FAST since you are essentially playing just 1 or 2 units during the entire conquest. Basically attack something with 1 general and press next turn, that's it!
Try this conquest when you can, it's fun, hugely different that normal conquests, it has a unique maritime flavor, a [Game Over] threat possible (but unlikely with the right setup) at every turn and it plays a little like WC4 1960 Skorea (without the nukes).
I have a feeling this will be patched eventually so don't get attached too much to it but before that happens fill up your coffers
The prize for this conquest:
In 30 minutes or less (repeatable ad nauseum) you get 10k gold, 50 medals,3 crown badges and 2 silver badges.
*The value of 1 crown badge is 300 medals at the store.
The value of 1 silver badge is 50 medals at the store.
Badges are used at the medal exchange to get things like [medal of Honor]=+1 Counter Attack skill or [medal of Red Eagle]=+1 Plain Fighting skill
