I just tried the auto play on this and it works to perfection. You just need the reward for the Canadian campaign, Falsen and a whole lot of militia to finish the conquest in my experience. It took me about 3 tries to get to the point where you can just turn on auto play, because the first two times, they sent Napoleon and Murat at me, so I couldn’t hold that back, but on my third try, the British got there fast and killed all the French units around me.
I took Corsica, and then did nothing but send militias to mainland Europe, then took Marseille, and by that point a horde of Prussians, HRE, Swede, Russian and English units had taken Paris. So, I’ve heard people say you need a good navy general to do it, but really, you just need some good luck.
I finished the conquest in ~70 turns, but it is pretty much confirmed you can auto play Sardinia, you just need about 25 turns to secure your island and take Corsica. Hope this helps because I found you can do it with only a bad navy general.

There are some variations in the AI conquest behavior for sure, how much they send against you (or for you) and how quickly. Good work, you did well considering the handicap.

I actually just did it last night with no generals, so if that helps, it works.
