Well I am currently playing the Finland 1939 conquest and in my play my German commander died and the American commander was on less than half health, so I thought to sell my German commander to buy a new one. So I sold him (he was un-upgraded) and bought the English commander, when I came back to the conquest and opened the assignment tab to assign him, IT WORKED, he is doing good on a motorized infantry.
Conclusion, if you want to have multiple eye covered dudes in a conquest then sell the one which has died and then buy a new one. He can give you some back up and when he dies, get a new one
