Personally I think we choose generals base on their set of skills suits for their role or nit, not the skill alone. I totally agree that Halo skills and terrain skills are the best. But the survival skills and Crit.chance skills are not that bad IMO, as those skills can stack with the base crit.chance and miss.chance of the unit according to my newest test

I think its just +10% damage. I agree that survival skills are tolerable. But take a look at Suchet. I am sure that no one here actually thinks he is a good option to buy. There are just way better skills. For example, the best infantry general would be assualt + infantry master + critical strike + plain warfare + tactics master. Perfect cavarly and artillery are pretty mucfh the same. In fact there already isn’t much space for great skills such as tunnel (ew6 version of explosives from wc3) or intercept (cavarly attacking skill). And don’t tell me that Karl wouldn’t be a better general with ambush than he would be with Assualt. The defensive skills in my opinion aren’t the reason as to why Washington is the best infantry, or Kutuzov is the best artillery. Its the other skills that matter more.

Probably it's +10% crit.chance and stacks with the base crit.chance of 3% or more of the unit itself, so it's approximately 13% crit.chance when fully upgraded, and crit.damage is 150% of normal damage. It's like (50x13)/100 = 6.5% increase each attack, not much to be op. And as my tests show, 1 defend = 1% less damage received so survival skills are sucks. (10% to reduce 50% damage) means (95% damage received each attack) = 5 defend increase. And so (10% to avoid attacks) = 10 denfend increase. The best survival skill imo is Alert as this skill increases 25 defend against canons (anything with the "canons" as their weapon in the unit window, and that unit doesn't need to stay hexes far from you to trigger this skill).
So survival skills and crit.chance skills are not that bad imo but also not good to consider when you you choose a general.

True, you have convinced me that alert is tolerable, and maybe even worth upgrading. But don’t get a general just cuz he has alert lmao. What about the barrier skills? Have you found them to be of any use yourself? Also two more things I have to say is: (1) a terrain bonus is useless if the general can’t do proper damage in the first place (*Moltke I am looking at you*), and (2) Gates and Jourdan exist for their respective units. I found that with the proper aura applied to them, they can both deal decent damage. In fact, a youtuber Bruchminati beat the whole game just using the free generals (till the 1812 update). Personally, the worst general that I have seen in this game so far is the Vorontsov, as he is just a heap of garbage for 1000 medals. Does any one else feel the same way?
