A post on this forum got me thinking about world order and governments. I think democracy is in its roots a system that protects itself just like other types of governments and with time passing people have few choices in decision making. I like to discuss ideas on how it should be "Democracy is the worst form of Government except for all those other forms that have been tried from time to time.…’ Winston Churchill I'm sure I read years ago that there was a study which found that the best form of govt was in fact a benign/benevolent dictatorship, but I've never been able to find it since. The current battle is between nationalism & globalism, with nationalism making a resurgence in many places (US, UK, Hungary, Italy, Poland, etc) after decades of one-directional travel towards globalism. Personally I'd favour a dictatorship if I get to be the dictator, otherwise I'd go for a minarchist national democratic set up with strong border controls.

As Oswald Spengler said once in his monumental work "Der Untergang des Abendlandes": "equality of rights is nothing without equality of opportunities". And it is very difficult to achieve this "equality of opportunities". Many in the modern world simply pay a lip-service to it, nothing more... I think that the most wise and fireproof system of the government was a late Roman republic. And I have a great respect for those who tried to save it like Cato the Younger. But it was fallen nevertheless, because illustrious men can't tame their own ambitions. They don't want to be primus inter pares (first among equals), they desire everything. But after each Caesar another Nero will come, and people will think again that democracy is not a bad thing after all I really like a British sitcom "Yes, Prime minister". Maybe, the best way is to have a system when no-one has a real power... Simply because the chance is high that this "one" in his nature will be a corrupt soul rather than a saint. P.s. There is an interesting book "The Storm Before the Storm: The Beginning of the End of the Roman Republic" by Mike Duncan (http://audiobookbay.nl/audio-books/the-storm-before-the-storm-the-beginning-of-the-end-of-the-roman-republic-mike-duncan/) It is interesting because we really don't know the true motifs of those who destroy a republic. It could well be a desire to improve the situation or burning personal ambitions, or some mixture of the former and the latter.

Hi, The EFC community has traditionally steered clear of purely political topics due to the international scope of the membership. We have done this so as not to create tension or stress or drama in the boards because of heated political disagreements.
Of course it's nearly impossible to avoid politics all together and some form of it has been allowed in the past but usually it's done when in context for example as a historical notes to a conflict and so forth. If there is a demand for more EFC political openness it's possible that at some point this policy maybe changed to some extent, maybe by creating a special political board or maybe by forming an EFC politics group for it or something along these lines but for now we will continue to observe the same procedures we have followed in the past and simply avoid political topics so this thread is now locked.
