For the 500 medal price difference, you can upgrade Rundstedt beyond Yamashita in my opinion And I'm leery of selecting generals that perform better when wounded, especially infantry There are 3 reasons to choose yamashita over rundstendt imp 1. He has raider and two extra slots. That opens up a lot of possibilities. Runstsendt lacks raider and have only one slot for another skill. However, he has urban fighting and guerilla which are decent skills. 2. Yamashita has lvl 5 movement and bayonet charge (forgiveable late game). 3. Yamashita has ace forces. For rundstendt, elastic defense is an awful skill whereas bayonet charge is much better (although still not the best). But ace forces allows for the general to reach star rank as fast as possible which is very important as it increases the maximum health cap of a unit. Imo, the combination of skills on yamashita will be a bit better than Rundstendt’s, as for an infantry general urban and elastic defense are not the best skills (however, that is a different case). At max, yamashita can have rumor, raider, infantry leader, ace forces. And bayonet charge making a very good general, whereas rundtsendt couldn’t even crack infantry leader, raider, and rumor. However, rundstendt would also be a very good choice as for half of yamashita’s price, he can do 80% of what yamashita can. Imo, its a good bargain.

I am trying to come up with a way to make yamashita the ultimate mechanized general with explosives.

it does not trigger on cities Are you sure? Let me try. I'm playing 1943 Japan with all land gens still alive. I can try to test out Yamashita if he has inf leader. I'm very certain that Itgaki, who has inf leader, did activate the skill when attacking cities. Just play 1943 Japan and send him to conquer the USSR from the east, sooner or later, you'll see it activate.

1943 yamashita only has ace forces bayonet charge and raider, infantry leader is what is added to his skill slots. Pertaining to the leader trigger, i correct and add on to what i said earlier, if there are units in the city the leader skill can trigger, but if its the city alone with no defending units, then the leader skill does not trigger. I have seen blitzkrieg trigger on an empty city tho, as an exception.

Anyways, i was definitely trying to see if I could get away with more city damage on my infantry general. Thanks.

Anyway, then I guess probably be better to stay on the safe side and purchase that skill as well.

forts is easy to trigger, ive used guderian to wipe out forts with panzer leader and blitzkrieg many times, but cities never receive a critical hit, thats one of the only factors it does not receive while the rest like explosives and raider do have a positive increase in damage output to open cities. To back this, i conducted experiments and let my soviet generals take out german city defense troops while guderian with maxed medal panzer leader(60%) did the rest of the job, only him hit the city. Due to him having no city bonuses(except for plainfighting but he was on a mountain), he did constant damage of abt 100-140 (non leader as he can hit up to 200 without an infantry target), with no obvious spikes indicating a trigger in panzer leader. I did it 2 more times, and tried 3 times each under the same circumstances with yamashita and konev, with their respective leader skills too, but yielded the same non-fluctuating damage output results(constant) to open cities.

Hmm nice observations. So the perfect mechanized general would have a skill like plain fighting instead of infantry leader. Or similarly, you could use mannerheim’s jungle fighting skill and tag on explosives. Nice obversation dude.

yep but infantry leader is not totally useless against cities, it can help empty them before you bring the city to 0 health, but that would be better to leave to other units like tank generals as infantry units are rather fragile... the best infantry general i think would have maxed raider, explosives, terrain fighting(any) and leader, while having someone with crowd tactics beside.

Nice, Macarthur sadly has urban fighting as his terrain bonus, and attacking cities while inside a city is not really be possible, otherwise he would be capable of being the best mechanized general. Thanks for the discussion man, pretty interesting stuff
