I already have Massena, should I just get Lannes or save up for Karl? Definetely Karl. Massena, Karl and Barclay will provide You best possible synergy for infantry team in the game. And even more important to take Karl if You are not planning to recruit Barclay. If You plan all these guys, than probably Barclay and after that Karl. |

It depends on how many infantry generals you want in your final squad really.
In one way, Lannes is really good on its own, and also really cheap (842 medals)
However, Karl has aura... which is just OP, but he is much more expansive.
If you ask me, the only end-game infantry generals are Massena, Karl, Washington, Barclay, Lannes and Bolivar (and maybe Suvorov and Bismark... not particulary effective considering how many medals they cost).
One interesting (and very good) thing about Lannes is that he is an all rounder... you will get an incredible +60 damage against cavalry in a city!!! (Perhaps the most damage you can do on infantry)
In the end, I think there is no reason not to get Karl (also you have to use that jungle medal on something)
Regarding Lannes... It is hard to say if you should pick him over Barclay. He is a better general by himself, but Barclay aura is really good.
I would wait on Lannes to see how those "princess-generals" turn out to be. But the bright side is that if you hire him and don't like him.. you only lose about 170 medals...
If you ask me it is really a shame that he hasn't got aura himself... it would have made him the best infantry general by miles (Napoleon level)
TL;DR
Save for Karl. Lannes is a good pick for 3rd or 4th infantry general.

Both are good, but Karl can crit. Lannes output is really high but he won’t crit very often. Plus Karl has an aura buff.
