I just checked, the only upside elite infantry has to grenadiers is the fact that they can resist terrain. Wow, it seems like the patch that buffed cavarly also buffed grenadiers severely. In fact, they both move 3 hexes.

Elite Infantry is still the prefered unit to shove generals on who are not plain fighters, but jungle or mountain fighters, so they still have a purpose. So put generals like Karl, Garibaldi, or Wellesley on these, but don’t put generals such as Grant or Lannes on these as it will be a waste of their abilities.

Elite infantry is good to get deep into the enemy lines. But as soon as You need to take cities anyway it makes no real sense. So I'd say: grenadiers for all Your infantry gens. Don't bother with elite infantry. I use it only when it is prespawned.

However if I have a chance to build an Assault Infantry, I do it. It has an excellent mobility, btw

I like Grenadiers, More versatile. There strong, and are good and attacking cities and forts.

Missions that require to kill generals only or defensive missions: Elite Light Infantry Missions that require to capture cities: Grenadiers

I just curious why grenadiers being noted to belong to the heavy infantry lines but they don't have long barrel gun and medium or heavy armor, maybe they've been OP already and ET give them musket and light armor

Grenadiers are versatile and deal more damage (way more damage) then elite light infantry do about the same damage to humans as grenadiers. And they are cheaper. The only edge elite light infantry have is that they don't care about terrain.
