First of all, I want to say thank to Erich von Manstein, wangchengxi, and all of others' threads that let me know more about the game, knowledge is power, and after understanding the attack-defend formula, the game's really more addictive.
And I think if any of you not farm Netherland 1798 in this version, you cannot beat the game, so don't say medals are a big problem, you lazy you get nothing.
As we play this game using TEAM OF GENERALS so I think it makes more sense to discuss about choosing team of gens. And believe me, each general has his pros and cons, using him the right way you get things done quickly, so discussing about one is good or not, which one is better..blah blah is a waste of time.
The Gen path thread show us many formations, but I think the best formation should be in direct proportion to the number of gold and purple generals in the Military School, we have 20 Inf Gens, 12 Cav Gens, 9 Arty Gens, 6 Admirals. So I think we should choose the formation of 4-3-2-1 if you can afford 2 more slots, or 3-2-2-1 if you have only 8 slots. I prefer the golden 4-3-2-1, but 3-3-2-2 is ok.
Infantry in EW6 is the main body of your army, cheap, easy to spam, reasonable output but lacks defend and speed. Usually in missions, I use the team of Massena-Karl-Barclay to rush into the most difficult direction, and they always do well.
Cavalry, fast, high defend, good against Infantry but expensive and hard to spam. They usually good at shocking the weak points without garrisons or rush to aid your weakly defend positions.
Artillery, slow, easy to die, poor output, hard to spam, expensive but excelled at bursting cities and hard targets like enemy generals. I use them behind my Infantry attack the enemy's main army, or team up two generals with aura to attack the direction with forts and big cities.
Most of the time, I usually attack in 3 directions with 3 teams of generals each kind, Karl-Massena hold the line against enemy's main army, Blucher-Murat go make a big circle, Napoleon-John(will be exchanged for Mahmud) flank the enemy. But missions are different and situations change so we need suitable strategy for each mission.
About choosing Infantry Generals, the golden team is Karl-Massena-Barclay with Karl or Massena be the main striker. If you want a cutting knife through butter, choose Karl-Massena-Washington/Bismark. Or if you can have 4 Inf Gens: Karl-Massena-Barclay-Washington/Bismark, keep them together and they can crush everything. Washington and Bismark are equally good, be the main striker if hired. According to the new damage formula, they are the best stand alone fighters now, best output becoz of PlainFighting, Assault and Abitilities, very good defend with Alert and Ambush. But Bismark is a bit better imo becoz he has Tunnel instead of CritChance as we know that plain damage is not affected by enemy's defend. You can also hire any general to work around the team of Karl-Massena-Barclay, maybe Lannes, Bolivar, Suvorov..., I like my Princess Ariel coz she's the best defensive Inf Gen you ever got here with Alert, Cover, Ambush, her output is reasonable with Assault and we have a Sailor medal for her.
My golden Cav team is Blucher-Murat-Davout, if you cannot afford Blucher, so it's Murat-Davout. Dabrowski is good, but he's just Duke Murat minus IgnoreBarrier, Davout is much more flex and has more output, I have Blucher-Murat so I know there'r not many plain hex around an enemy, so it's difficult to get three PlainFighting Gens work together, 3 Cav Gens with Aura are also rarely stay together coz Cav is expensive and hard to spam. Davout or Blucher should be the main striker, Lan and Ney are not as good as Davout/Dabrowski so don't hire them.
Artillery in this version is not the king on the battlefield anymore, so my golden team is Napoleon-Mahmud. If you cannot hire Napoleon, try Mahmud-Alexander/Sophia/Maria/Kutuzov. You should have two and only two Arty Gens, Artillery has so many cons and should not be relied on in missions. Two Arty gens, one for bursting cities with StormFortifications, one for thinning down enemy line/attack enemy Gen.
For Admiral, just get Nelson, he's expensive to hire but he's good for all missions, defend or offend. Victoria is kinda offensive, good for attacking weaker enemies, but if you're in a long bloody battle, choose Sakurako, as wangchengxi let me know that Alert has effect on everything fire cannon balls at you even he stands next to you, and if Cover/Helmsmen triggered together with Alert, it's 0.8*0.5=0.4 damage received. So Sakurako is the one who go into the middle of the battlefield, defend choke points, receiving damage and fight back while Nelson/Victoria go around picking up weaken foes.
Thank Manstein again for your strategy of keeping Gens with aura together, I usually fight that way, and it's really useful. But if you have top stand alone Gens, you can team up like: Bismark-Davout-Kutuzov, Washington-Lan-Sophia... but I think it's not effective as Aura Gens together.
For using items, Generals with main striker duty should be equipped with Ambulance and AbilitiesIncrease while the one with defensive skills work well with PrussianHelmet/RoyalGuardsClothes and Tents. I use 2 Medpacks for the 3rd Inf Gen if needed. InfGens are better equipped with Ambulance coz Inf has low defend: Karl/Washington/Bismark(Ambulance+Fergusons)- Massena(Tent+RoyalClothes)- Barclay/Karl(Ambulance-Becks) ; Blucher/Davout(Tent-Flintlocks)- Murat/Blucher(Medpack-Medpack); Napoleon/Mahmud(Medpack-Telescope).
Finally, thank all of you guys, let's go beat the game all 3 stars.
