Most of us are familiar with the Trial scenarios where one or more allies, which we we are to protect, run off on solo Banzai charges headlong into amassed enemies and killing your chances for meeting 3 star condition challenge as in Zhukov's 4th.... which is entirely juxtaposed to Beethoven's 5th๐.
Montgomery's 3rd Trial also has a combat medic led by an allied General who also sprints off to certain death from the 'getgo'/round one. Patton surviving is also part of the trial and condition to keeping 3 stars.
The stars shown in each type of challenge poster , i believe designate how many times you've passed through a trial, Rescue Ally, or surviving 30 rounds of Mannerheim, Poland, Maginot, Barbarossa, etc. Now, im asking...is it just me...or, has somebody put PCP into Monty's 3rd? Is it the RNG? I ve had 3 consecutive bad starts.... and this used to be an easy battle. The Medic goes on a suicide run as soon as the gates open! Anyone else having an issue with this one?

Is it because of a change in AI triggers, scripted actions or the two enemy buffs? These are possible reasons.
The *s feel more like they discuss ease and commitment level. The Domination events on rotation and fast and furious, but not too bad. I just avoid all Trials because of the time needed due to the size and objectives, which goes for the Defense campaigns as well.

Decided to try again after reading your comment. ...and mission accomplished on 2nd try. Dempsey goes ballistic on 4th round towards Greim. So on 2nd attempt I simply targeted Greim which kept Dempsey safe until i cleared Eastern regions, but he soon went after bottom Middle city with the Gustav. I skytrained Yamamoto over to missile city and cleared it before he and Patton were killed. Then used missiles and my Guderian to soften and para~snipe last southwest city. Took snapshots Combat medic should be at the ready, but even he cant do much if allies are surrounded.

Definitely difficulty change and enemy buffs, because one of them is die together that a unit would damage surrounding enemies (aka we and our allies) upon being killed, so it is either we clear the vipsโ path very quick or they dives into enemy hordes and bleed like flood gate opened.

I failed the first time also.
The trick is to eliminate all enemies near him on rounds 1-3. Doing so, for whatever reason, forces his AI to not go attack anyone and instead he stays put.

Any one knows the trigger for Chuikov and Timoshenko in Zhukov Trial 2? Playing it on the first time (under the time limited Hard mode to add more difficulty) and Chuikov nearly rushed into Manstein's counterattack.
Then, Timoshenko attacked after Manstein mysteriously withdrew.
Also, why is defeating Paulus not demoralising to the Germans? Under his command, what's left of an army group was surrendered due to eventual encirclement.

Seems the trigger for allies going to Berzerker Mode is how many cities you capture. My solution is to attack cities with enemy, non-infantry Generals, as they are the most likely to be able to kill our Charges/VIPs; leaving as many Infantry General controlled cities for last which I can more easily and quickly take out with Air. This also limits the amount of rounds our, Banzai charging, allies, are at risk. Hope this works for you.

Chuikov attacks the NW city before attacking W city and defends them in this order unless there are enemy troops. Afterwards, he camps at the southern edge of the W city.
Need to watch out for Paulus to the NW and Manstein to the W.
Timoshenko alternates attacking and resting every turn or 2 turns, I think. He targets the S city before the SW city.
Need to try to wipe out all surrounding foes and Rumour-lock the gens.
Not sure about Zhukov because I eliminated the enemies along the nothern corridor. He remained still throughout.

I cleared the area around the NW City, but didnt took it. Just let the germans spawn some troops to keep Chuikov and Zhukov busy attacking them. I was there already much more west.
For the southern Front. On Turn 1, I airdroped a inf unit one the Spot where timoshenko Likes to go, so He stays away from Bock. Otherwise He took like half His HP as DMG.
And Take Runstedts City late, then all Soviets try to "Counterattack" the Germans Positions.
