dagonithtr , It depends what exactly means the best. Max damage? Max usefulness? Overall use? They all fulfill a specific role. You can't say: engine is more important for the airplane than the fuel. Something like that... There couldn't be a universe answer. Voted for Cavalry

The best unit type is infantry. Easy to spam, generals are easy to fix, have okay mobility. Cavalry is powerful, but they need some set up before they can destroy things.

Cavalry is undoubtedly powerful tho. Infantry is just more available. But if it's a question of simply who's better without considering availability, then Cavalry definitely.

But I believe that we can't do that, I mean to evaluate the relative strengths of units in a vacuum. In ET games (as in a real history, to say the truth) the most valuable units are those you can deploy here and now, not in our dreamworld. It is very difficult to hire more than one elite cavalry unit in campaigns (if you don't have them from the start). And I consider myself lucky if I am able to replenish my heavy cavalry altogether... Btw, I don't think that Raid is a bad skill anymore. Most of the time my Pacorus fights troops larger than his own... So I think it is a kind of Blitzkrieg of WC4.

Good thing heavy cavalry can tank a lot of hits

I personally remember archers with nameless generals in EW5 (in the endgame) who were ridiculously powerful and could smash your skull, before you can say: "Hello"

Was thinking about types of attack and looks like infantry is actually the best unit type. Max efficiency against Heavy infantry/Legionary - Thump attack. And as I understand only War Elephants has this type of attack. But we definetely can't use War elephants with every country and even with those who has such a possibility it won't be that easy. Other unit types basically can't counter heavy infantry effectively. So whatever unit You use to attack heavy infantry You'll face that broken sword blue sign saying Your attack efficiency is lower than 100%. The best among them is probably Javelineer due to its special ability. Of course all heavy armoured units arte difficult to fight against, but infantry is the easiest to obtain and use. So, yes, that old discussion that infantry has no any specific "feature" can be raised once again. How do you thing dagonithtr ?

Slingers have that kind of attack too but not many people using them so i suppose you're right.
