DISCLAIMER: this thread is just a person opinion. It is not supposed to be sexist or trigger anyone. I had a discussion with some friends a few days ago about how older representations of people, and I had to tell the following things on the depiction of women: ”Why do I find women looking better in the old paintings (and even in all photos until the 50s) more beautiful then today? Not sure if it's the answer, but I just find something more...natural when watching them. Something that I can't see anymore, or very hard. Maybe they were more elegant, more gracious...or was just the hairstyle (actually, the whole body looked quite good, even if maybe this was just made for the upper class paintings or something like that). or mayve it is just personal taste... If there is one word I would use to represent my feelings, it would be <<natural>>” just an example from Romania, 19th century Another example, still from the 19th century Again, sorry if anyone has been offended or maybe my beauty standard seems offensive. As the old saying, "personal tastes can't be discussed". But what do you think?

I believe the same Women in old times looked better than today Nowadays fashion and makeup and such things change women's look and they all have rivals to be more beautiful than others While in old days women (and even men) had a clean mind and they didn't change the look that God gave them God is the greatest and if he gave us a look , we have to keep it , God knows the best and if he gave us a look , he did it for ourselves

Well, it”s not as bad as i could imagine, so I guess we can move on with this... This thread started as an expression of personal tastes, in the context of a 17 year old me who is going through a... let's call it strange part of my life and I start seeing women a different way than I did before Sorry if I got a bit too personal in what I said, but I hope we could have a health discussion and share opinions and concepts

Well , I have the same opinion as Vasiliy . The women looked better in the old times than today . I don't want to be racist or to judge the girls/women , but that's my opinion. Although , there are still women that are trying to "revive" the way of wearing clothes , from the old times.

I think its just the art form that portrays the past figures to be as attractive as they appear. I am sure if someone built a time machine and went back and looked at the average woman back in the day, they would not seem as attractive as in the painting.

It is same as today, we just use filters and makeup instead of some art form, time hasn't really changed that much. And CountVonNumenor puberty is an age when such feelings might occur. It is very normal, you can't stop thinking completely about such things, but be more busy and active in your life and learn new skills, you will eventually stop thinking about it. Again I am saying this only if you think a lot about these things and are hampering your academic performance. Also sorry for giving advice to you without your asking, but I feel that this thread is getting a bit awkward and community guide lines could get violated in the future.

Agreed but a photograph takes a mere fraction of the time a painting does. A photo is instant whereas a painting takes hours of hard labor. Even for a perfectionist photograph, unless the occassion is some sort of special annual event that only occurs once, a photograph is a pretty quick process.

At the moment, I really did not put the problem of having a relation or anything like that, and when I'm asked why I don't have a GF or at least a crush, I just tell that I did not worry about that, now a bigger problem for being study for school (even if I need some free time too).

Now, I'm a bit sorry for opening this, and I hope it did not become too cheesy or awkward. If people could keep the decency, this would not violate the community guidelines.
Maybe this could be turned into a discussion about art, and how it evolved in the past 200 years?

I couldn't help but think. There's two ways beauty shines. How the perceived model or object presents itself and what the viewer sees. many of my models shine by what it is they're highlighting like expertly done makeup, how she chooses her wardrobe, how she emphasizes be body , how she /he works to better what isn't ideal to them I personally like how most men and women are simple yet very appealing sometimes I'm drawn to a flawless skin or nice physique to nice hair . I'm an artist and IMO you're one too if you see it like me.
