General meade is a good starter gen. I got Radko Dimitriev instead. You can finish the whole civil war campaign without any additional generals(other than the free ones). |

IMO,there is no specific path to this.Buying all the required end game generals is just a matter of when since medals can be earned effortlessly.You don't even have to possess a full arsenal of generals to beat the campaigns and conquests.Just follow your heart and playstyle instead of following the trend and make yourself uneasy about it.

Radko Dimitriev = Duke Ivanov. He is a bit crippled due to that, but otherwise should be a pretty strong general. Meade is absolutely atrocious, but he is at least useful for history mode. The best starting artillery general has to be Vazov though |

My biggest mistake was buying Joffre,I turned him into a Ludendorff clone but his output is nowhere close to Ludendorff, absolutely awful

He is much worse than ludendorf I do agree, but if you focus on fixing his shoot output, he can be made into a slow stonewall jackson (who is worse). |

Should I get him instead of Stepan? I can use Stepan in history mode but I can’t use Sidney in it so I’m not sure. |

Yeah i think making him a frunze clone would make more sense altho i deleted the game after finishing it
Anyway, since joffree dissapointed me I think best non iaps are (in order) Plumer,stepanovic, jackson,mcllelan, johnston
Johnston is very good but i dont remember him that well,on the other hand,stepanovic was really good even with no skill changes (his start off skills were bad but he had a nice output) so thats why i gave him the second place,he carried me thru lots of missions and conquests until i bought plumer who turned out to be another beast
