Yeah, my "first" general as well My understanding of an Artillery general in EW 1914 is different. I will replace Artillery expert with Artillery leader, Mountain fighting with Plain fighting and Inspiration with Dogfight. So a lot of work, but it is completely worth it..

Well, that completely ruins Ivanov. Then he's just a depressing Leopold. Artillery Expert is what gives Ivanov his insane output, so changing that will remove the one feature that makes Ivanov good. Mountain fighting is more important than plain fighting on artillery, or else it will take you forever to move through mountains, and lastly, dogfight is a useless skill most of the times. It doesn't stun your enemy completely, they can still attack but they just can't move. However switching inspiration for artillery commander is not a bad option at all, a aura gen is nice to have after all. Even tho artillery aura isn't as good since you'll mostly have 1-2 artillery in campaigns, the skill also gives you an additional salvo damage buff so its still good.

First, I am afraid there is a misunderstanding of what Artillery Expert does in reality. It doesn't increase the overall damage, but rather the lower border. Let's suppose the possible damage is between 80 and 120 points. Artillery Expert will increase it to 88 and 120. Artillery Commander even after being nerfed in EW 1914 is far superior as a personal skill, let alone team skill. Second, I already completed the game and I never ever had any problems with mobility and movements. The value of Mountain fighting is seriously overestimated by many players. Plains are predominant battle fields in the game and Plain fighting is still the best available terrain bonus. Third, Dogfight is the best way to stop an endless spamming which is the most serious AI's weapon. It is absolutely incredible skill if you understand how enemy's AI work in Et games. I will give Dogfight to several of my generals. It is a game changing skill if you know what you are aiming for.

Jungle fighting is, of course, a far superior option than MF, but since several of my generals will have it I am afraid it will be a serious competition within my team for a single spot in forests . I think 50/50 approach is fairly balanced...

It changes the fluctuation minimum from 0.6 to 0.85. I would call that a significant improvement.

Totally agree that Artillery expert is one of the best skills for arty gen, my arty gens without art expert have their damage fluctuate so much, sometimes 50-90 (40s different) between save-load. And the higher damage he has, the higher the it fluctuates. My Ivanov has: Salvo-Art Expert-Art Commander-Tactic Master-Jungle Fighting. Considering change Art commander for Pierce/Plainfighting

Previous time I wanted to have at least one Artillery general without any terrain bonus so that he could be more flexible while choosing position. I tested Pierce and Expert but was rather disappointed with both (when compared to terrain bonus). So, I think that all of my Cavalry and Artillery generals will have either Jungle or Plain fighting. Old school approach

stoic another question, if you are using Dogfight to limit the enemy spam, why not just increase your damage so you can kill the unit and take the city? Dogfight only has 30% chance; for it to work effectively you need several of them attacking the same enemy unit. If the unit isn't super tanky you could've killed it and Dogfight is essentially wasted.

Dogfight only has 30% chance; for it to work effectively you need several of them attacking the same enemy unit. If the unit isn't super tanky you could've killed it and Dogfight is essentially wasted. First, there are rather thick walls sometimes, so one or even two Artillery generals can't break it immediately. Second, late in the game HP status of units is relatively high, so an Artillery general barely is able to one-shot them. Third, there are many generals inside cities. So it is possible to bombard them as sitting ducks while our troops clear up surrounding areas. And, last but not least, Dogfight is a great tactical weapon in field battles as well, enabling us to stun the most dangerous opponents. Together with second probability attack it is an excellent instrument indeed. Even in particular conquests it is extremely helpful. I completed Serbia 1917 challenge conquest before they were nerfed with the help of Dogfight, because Ivanov stopped Bulgaria's spamming of generals. All in all, I think Dogfight is an excellent skill for Artillery (especially in combination with TM) and it is largely underrated by many players.

Also put Dogfight for arty gens together with TM

But how many Dogfight generals do you need to make it reliable? There's still around 12% chance the enemy won't be affected even if you have 6 of them. If you only put it on artillery generals then it's about 50/50 for most players who have only invested in Beseler and Ivanov.

Even with one gen it is still solid chance at the cost of one skill, which anyway could be situational. Not an ultimate skill of course but could be a good help against strong enemies You'ld like to avoid fighting.

I had 3 Artillery generals I used most of the time in campaigns and conquests: Ivanov, Hindenburg and Leopold. Two of them had Dogfight. Now I will replace Leopold with Beseler (because he is a king) but the pattern will be the same.

Compared to a worse stun I rather pour all my firepower onto it and take the city ASAP. Since it's called a game changing skill then I should expect it to be a part of my regular tactics, but 30 isn't good enough for that.
