So Brusilov isn't held in the highest regard based on this list alone. But has anyone else used him? I've got quite a few medals to spare, so it's not too bad for me if he's not that good. But he actually doesn't look too bad.

if you want the best generals so you can complete the game fast, just buy these generals in this order:
ivanov, beseler, plumer, lee, hipper, hindenburg, beaty, another inf general if you want (Straußenburg). the only free generals you should use in end game is jackson (2nd best cav general after plumer) and maybe molke (your 3rd best cav gen)
skills i changed for each hero:
beseler: didn't change any skills but if you want can swap plain fighting for artillery expert. ivanov: switched inspiration for storm fortification. plumer: switched riding master and alert for precision strike and surprise attack jackson: switched station and riding master for precision strike and surprise attack hipper: switched inspiration for alert lee: switched battle array, tunnel and ambush for infantry commander, infantry master and plain fighting (you might only want to switch battle array and tunnel because switching last skill costs 15 books - expensive) hindenburg: switched alert and land fort with mountain fighting and tactic master beaty: don't change any skills
in total, you will need 70 books to change all generals skills - it seems a lot but you can farm them if you watch the ads every day and go for the one that gives books as well as do the campaign challenges that gives books. Also you get 3 books from doing the 3 star conquests for each conquest (12 books in total) and you get books from achievement.

But he actually doesn't look too bad. I bought him (I had leftover medals) and he is a crappy general, don’t use him. He is a very bad Russian cavalry general. Generals like Yudenich, Rennenkampff and Saltz are x10 better than him , unfortunately they aren’t purchasable

Unlike many others such as mine, it doesn’t force you to overswap the skills.

You dont need his navy commander because hipper has it. Also switched rage for gunsight master for hipper

I've invested the coins to max out his rank, he's currently at Viscount for me. I'm loving him.

I got Nicholas II and replaced Explosives for Salvo. He is hitting for rolls more or less identical to Hotzendorf with Salvo and plain fighting. I think the rank makes up for the lack of a skill slot, if you don't want a fast general.

i've just done a couple of conquest challenges (1861 and 1914) and i just wanted to say that navy generals like hipper are really useful. i think the best mix of generals to use it conquests is 3/4 artillery, 4 cav, 1 inf and 1/2. navy gens are important to clear out enemy ships that will destroy your units trying to cross and they also help to clear cities so its a good idea to invest (hipper and beaty is enough)

Personally, I use the 5 skill generals such as Ivanov for terrain (and therefore speed) and Hotzendorf/Nicholas for actual output on key cities, forts, or armored units

Remember too that Emperor rank gives a better bonus than most skills. I find that Beseler doesn't do as much at max rank as Nick, and so I made him an aforementioned speed demon

Personally, I use the 5 skill generals such as Ivanov for terrain (and therefore speed) and Hotzendorf/Nicholas for actual output on key cities, forts, or armored units That is not true at all. The terrain skills give +% atk and +% atk typically does increase your damage more than salvo and the like if your weapon type is effective vs your target, such as when you attack forts or the like. It’s only when you attack units that you’re not effective against where + flat damage is better, such as against infantry and most cavalry. Though I’m not sure how hard you’re going to be hit by the def stats on forts and cities. Furthermore, speed is really darned important. A turn where you just move forwards and don’t attack at all is a turn wasted, and you deal 0 damage. So speed = damage unless you slow down your entire army. And slowing down your entire army so that your slow person can keep up has all sorts of problems. You’ll conquer less, you’ll earn less money, your allies will fall, etc.
