The Samurai trait + the one that gives him +50% when defending would make him a tough nut/bait . The archers will obliterate most of the enemy units ( including cavalry) Atilla and Blucher willtake care of the injuried units and clean the battle field while he would be usefull for baiting the enemy, but his skills would also allow him to fight on his own . Instead I could take Bismark ( second artillery general) or Jhansi ( third ArcCom ), but I feel kinds sorry for letting every infantry general behind ...

That is exactly how I used him as well. I think I was the only one here on the forum to use Barbarossa right after the release of EW5. Everybody hated him IDK why. He is the best possible meatshield for archer lineup as he has leadership (probably second best skill in the game). Meatshield debuffer. What could be better?

In the long run he may be the best free general we get . I mean, Alexander is super helpful in the early ages, but Barbarossa has a better end game potential . If I remember right, he was in your team for Volvograd ? Or am I mistaking ...

I unlocked Legendary mode yesterday and if I recognise the patterns correctly - future chapters (Greek, Egypt mythology) will be quite challenging. This mode is like Expeditions in GCR, but without any possibility to restore health between battles. That makes healers even more valuable...

You do get some health back after the battles but I don't know how much exactly, and you can use your whole squad. You can also swap equipment between battles but I've found it too time consuming for no real reward so far so I'll wait until I feel have a real chance of defeating the end boss before taking it that seriously.

At first I thought this possibility to use our whole squad is great. But on a second thought it doesn't seem to be so amazing. How valuable our 3-5 stars generals will be when it comes to serious challenge? Most likely they will be obliterated without mercy with or without equipment. We can count only on our first team, imo...

They can be actually good meatshields for every battle ( we need those ).

Yeah, the squad rotation does have some utility but I'm not sure exactly how much yet and it's definitely of limited value.

Did yours unlock at Son of Scotland 4/Red Beard 1 as well? I'm curious if it's based on campaign or empire mode progress.

Since I unlocked it only today and my legendary mode was unlocked yesterday I don't think they are connected in any way Probably lvl 20 is the only requirement to unlock it...

Great list. Moctezuma is pink tier for me though, because I cannot underestimate how helpful he and caesar are during discovery age conquest.

Great list. Moctezuma is pink tier for me though, because I cannot underestimate how helpful he and caesar are during discovery age conquest. I’m not sure if he’s that important as to deserve pink. Yi Sun-Sin is better imo since nobody else has Bugle and Bugle is a great debuff that you can stack on top of leadership, and Armor Master is better than cure master since cure master heals by a fixed amount that becomes less and less the higher the stats go, while Armor Master reduces damage by a percentage amount. It’s pretty telling that no one is considering him in the endgame. He does have some very nice advantages though, he’s available early and easily affordable when no other good archers are, and his skillset is still quite solid, but this isn’t enough to elevate him imo. Availability does not do anything except maximally raise someone to green. Beyond that it’s all stats and skills. Pink is a very high tier, exclusive to the absolute best of the best that are centerpieces in any strategy, like Attila or Nobunaga and the like. Turquoise is given to very useful people. Moctezuma fits the bill on turquoise imo, but maybe you find him super central in your play.

But he needs good items to be viable.
