I just want to ask what do you guys think is the best unit type? Between infantry, artillery, tanks, navy, and air force taking into account stats, special forces, availebility, the generals that main them, utillity, etc. Which unit type would be the best out of the five? Feel free to leave your answers and reasons to discuss in this thread

The easiest and cheapest type to Recruit/Replenish (the vital point in every battle), acceptable attack, highest stack level (4 when compare with 3 of Arti and Tank). With the special force function, Inf is stronger than it was in previous ET games. Tank is still strong but the most important advantage - the continuous attack ability - now only 60% (even on Heavy tank) chance to active and I don't see any clue that we can increase that rate through tech upgrade.

Yeah inf having 36 special forces compared to artillerys 10 and tanks 14 infantry utility and versatility blows tanks and artillerys out of the water however they do get outclass in terms of raw strength but again they can easily adapt to the enemy and situation with special forces

Infantry isn't bad, it's the most used unit due to its cost, but tanks and armoured cars still roll over them. While I can agree they're versatile, they're not the best

I remember early days of WC4 when many were fascinated by Mannerheim and Yamashita. In terrorist wars though they didn't have a single chance. Infantry was improved since then, but I really doubt that Infantry will replace armored vehicles as our main force. Again tanks were not especially impressive in WC 4 until all technologies were unlocked. We should keep that in mind...

Yeah I think they'll be in the sidelines for the late game missions however maybe the unlocking of special forces and niche mission objectives that can only be reached by infantry would keep them relevant.. BTW who voted navy?

Also I feel like in irl WW2 infantry would still be a powerful force in the pacific and african theater where armored forces were less common

Big ship has same hp as two tanks. Reasonable.

Also I feel like in irl WW2 infantry would still be a powerful force in the pacific and african theater where armored forces were less common During WW2, tanks were never used as the main battle force, these were always infantry. Armored forces didn't become the main battle force untill the cold war, when countries started to develop Main Battle Tanks. Armored forces were always weak against infantry regiments (because they always had some guys with anti-tank weapons) and air strikes. Tanks were often countered with infantry supported by artillery or air strikes, or tank destroyer regiments (whose armored forces were able to shoot armor-piercing shells). During WW2, tanks were mainly used to support infantry, targeting enemy infantry, fortified positions and light armored vehicles. And even the Germans didn't use them as main battle forces. They used tanks combined with the air force to swiftly pierce through the enemy frontline, followed up by motorized and mechanized infantry. So looking at historical records, it makes sense that infantry is quite strong, even against armored forces (which they actually are).

I agree I find a double stack guderian far easier to deal with in this game than in wc4 and mixed unit combinations far more powerful than just a squad of tanks

In Army Group I first tried a combination of tanks and artillery, but they got annihilated quickly. You really need a combination of all units. Although I voted for tanks, because they are good in most situations, are versitile and have the best generals. I still think that in GOG3 there is no best unit.

Tanks are the powerhouses of Easytech’s games since EW3. But I think they really balanced it the right way this time, since it is way harder and more expensive to resupply tanks than infantry.
