Yes. 1. Mobility Sure, cavalry can go superfast on plains, but once it comes to mountains and rivers, it's where infantry shines. 2. Price Cavalry is super expensive. 3. Not good against cities Cavalry does like no damage against city HP. Infantry however, tend to do a lot more. 4. Bad generals Cav generals suck. It's literally just Stonewall and Ludendorff/soviet iap guy 1. HMGs is also stuck in non-plain. Other infantry except militia and New infantry, are least used units in the whole game. New Infantry is used only on generals early game. 2. Super expensive? How? Also In Most campaigns you get them already 3. Artillery exists 4. Moltke, Sidney, Mclenan- none of these suck

They got tents and ambulances, yet those still can't save them even in moderate intensity conflicts, let alone in high and very high intensity ones.

Agreed. I often have to swap out the Enfield rifle on many of my inf gens in favour of the Prussian helmet or royal guards' clothes. Like even for my Macmahon who is maxed and has 3 defensive skills, needs to have a hp item equipped on him, or else he'll just die too soon. The general rule is that Cav are superior to that of infantry. Though there are many special inf units, armoured cars and tanks are literal weapons of destruction. Dealing with all that spam that comes your way during conquests is quite annoying if you only have inf gens. It will be bearable in normal conquests, but once you start attempting challenge conquests the amount of spam that is put against you will be annoyingly hard to clear if you don't have cavalry gens who have tactic master (sometimes you can attack multiple times during a turn using the same gen). The only inf gens that you really should invest in is only Straussenberg and other usable infantry history gens, primarily MacMahon. Invest more into your big 3 arty gens (the 3 gold ones other than leopold) and you cav gens.

Taizong of Tang Tanks are extremely expensive and limited to 1914/1917. Upgrading stats are also expensive. Just don't waste your money on cav generals, Stonewall/Moltke are good enough for the time being. Arty generals are a much better investment. Boroevic/Haig goes extremely hard (100+ damage) when put on HMG. To build on Charles Huntziger 's response: 1. You don't need tanks to dominate. Armored Cars do massive damage on their own, but attach McClellan or Stonewall, you are effectively the ruler of the continent as long as they are still alive. 2. If upgrading stats are expensive, have you seen Boroevic and Haig? Even Lee? Take that back, especially Lee? They need at least 2 skill changes (Haig only needs 1 if you aren't picky) and Straussenburg has all of his skills at Level 1. 3. I have two words for this: Plumer, McClellan 4. Beseler and Ivanov are very good and require minimal improvement/skill swapping. Hotzendorf too, if you need a little support. But artillery is slow without generals and will get murdered by infantry/cavalry when trying to reach a city, so cavalry is needed to kill the spam. 5. Please, my Straussenburg did 200+ damage once, and once again, look at the damage output on Armored Cars with Jackson or McClellan. 130 on stronger units without terrain, 150 on stronger unites with terrain, 150-ish on weak troops without terrain, 170+ on weak troops with terrain. And once, my Jackson did 225-ish damage on a weak unit. On terrain. With Level 2 terrain boost at the time. This makes Your general's damage of 100+ kinda weak and Armored Cars do about 70 damage without a general. PS: I know I'm kinda late.

Why would you need Lee when you have Straussenburg? And if you hate Tunnel (Alexyx ranks it at bad), you will want to swap that out.

Straussenburg is miles better than Lee as the best inf. poll clearly states, but he is also cheaper, which is very important to new players. 2. Tunnel is trash, as Alexyx says, but you already have grenadiers to kill city HP and kill garrisons, cavalry to clear garrisons, takes to sometimes clear garrisons but kill city HP more, and artillery to kill city HP and sometimes garrisons.

Not everyone has Grenadiers, and How is Straussenberg better? Lee has a higher Battle ability, and if you change Battle Array to Tactics Master, He has near perfect skills.

Straussenburg is cheaper, more cost effective for early game, and will be nearly the same or even better than Lee fully maxed, and 1 or 2 percent isn't going to help Lee's case very much.

Yep! Anyways, if you put your generals on grenadiers you're pretty much setting yourself up for a longer game during challenge conquests, as grenadiers don't do that much damage against other units (Not as much as HMG or even New infantry). Though they excel at breaking cities and holding the line for your cavalry generals to later exploit (Especially the French Old Guard, their defence is really high).

Artillery also does good amount of damage against armour and Heavy Armor.
